Hi guys, this is one happy me enjoying a great gift of my lovely GF. I'm not a pilot at all but I got a test lesson for my birthday, what a great day. So I decided to build a Cessna, not the same model type but you can see the similarity.

The Bird Dog was used for reconnaissance, as an artillery spotter, convoy escort, communications plane and also for light strike during the Vietnam War. The Roden kit looks fairly simple and I think it will be fun to build. Here are the sprue shots...

Only 25 steps ;-)

And some aftermarket masks

I'm also ordered some seat belts, a replacement set of the decals and a metal landing gear as the kit one doesn't look like it could take the weight. Let's start building this big little plane [smile]

Quite an unusual kit with big potential. I'm looking forward to the first pictures! Good luck [thumb]!

This is a great looking little plane, I built a 1/35 scale L-4 Grasshopper awhile ago in D-Day markings.  It's a similar observation plane, lots of fun to build.

Can't wait to see how this build turns out.

Hi Fabian, here is a shot of the plane.  I haven't finished the diorama base yet but it will be mostly grass field with a small section of dirt road.

and here is another view of the plane....

The postman delivered some goodies [smile]. Metal landing gear, decal set and the seat belts. Couldn't find seat belts for the Bird Dog so I got some Spitfire ones. That should do the trick I hope.

I looked up some reference pictures and found that most of the interior is covered with (acoustic?) panels. The interior of the kit is rather plain so I went and made some panels out of styrene sheets and tissue paper. Here are some pics of the work in progress. Having fun [smile]

very nice, looking good.  I especially like the welding details on the inside of the window trim and your added panels are a nice touch.

great work.

just a little update. I do like the kit but every part needs a lot of cleaning en TLC. Changed one of the engine cowls slightly to have it in the open position, added some mesh to the nose and started working on the cockpit. Here are the pics [smile]
