Okey dokey then !
With the mancave on hold until the snow melts and the lorry with my timber can get up the hill, I have sat down at the bench and tried to figure out the state of play with this build.
As I have previously mentioned, I started this back when I got back in the hobby, and it looks like I wasn't entirely sure what I was doing
The parts D-10 and D-4 are the forward glove vanes, and it looks like they can be made to move
20150114_104715
But the younger me, glued them in and sanded them smooth, I have no idea why, there is also a little gap to take care of too
20150114_104730
Also in the box was a part butchered BigEd set, included is a fair amount of etch for the exterior, but for some reason I haven't used any of it.
I will try and use as much as I can from herein, but the vents can't go on as the fuselage is already glued together, and I need to get inside

Yeah they're on sliders. Move with the wings right?
I've barely looked at the instructions past step 1. lol

Loads of etch !
Still In the box are Eduard masks, formation lights and remove before flight tags
20150114_110728

One of the shortcomings of their kit are the intakes, they lack a roof for the tunnels, I'm not certain how I will tackle this yet. I have found that I have already fitted the intake ramps.
If you look at this pic of that stage of the instructions, you can see that Tamiya give three options for the position
20150114_104630
For some reason I cant understand, the earlier incarnation of me fitted them in the full afterburner, supersonic position
20150114_104638
A little strange for a Tomcat on the deck do t you think ?
They are too well glued in to change now, but their current position does mean that the view down the intakes is obscured a little bit, so I may get away without adding a liner

Hey send it over here if you don't need it anymore! [rofl][rofl][rofl]
So does that mean the wings are fixed? Or they move?

Heheheh, the wings move fine, but the glove vanes are glued and sanded flush, I'm not sure if it matters or not (I don't even know what they do lol !) it might be that they only extend in flight, so it won't matter, but Im trying to figure out what I did when I started this back in the day, it looks like I was pretty clueless lol

I can see why I gave up on it, there is a lot of etch to go on and I don't think I was capable of working with 2 sets of instructions back then as I've left tons out lol, I'm sure I can rescue this and mak it look half decent though

I have decided to start the landing gear, these are little kits all own their own, and Eduard supply plenty of etch to go on in the set to
These are the basic parts for the nose strut, Tamiya supply a metal rod to go inside to add strength.
I was thinking about shortening the strut and show the plane at launch (might look good on my carrier deck ?)
20150114_113955
But for a plane at launch I would need a Maverick and Goose.
I thought I had used both of the pilots from this kit on another project, but I found one seated pilot, trouble is i can only find 2 right arms !
Anyways, I will figure out something using the bits I have here
20150114_112440
I have already found some pin marks in places but easy fix on these

But will need a lot of work to get seamless
20150114_125146
Plenty of etch to go on these too, but at least I've made a start

With the figures I have, I'm thinking of having it canopy up, ladder extended with the seated guy in the back and the standing pilot by the ladder, I will see how it goes, I might still find another seated pilot yet.
I have got 2 in the Bunker Buster F-15 kit, but I might use them in that kit so not sure if I should pinch them for this one or not

I think you are right, they extend with the main wings, completely solid on this one now, good job this will be on the deck as I've stuffed up the aerodynamics for sure lol !

It took a bit of scraping, filing and sanding but I got the main gear struts cleaned up
20150114_163150
It should be fine under a coat of primer
20150114_163134
I decided to give the etched wiring a go
20150114_182715
It looks a little flat, but even though the lead wiring I have is very thin, I think it will be overscale

It looks ok in the 2 dimensional world of a computer screen Pete.
Have you got a good reference? I only have a walk around of a wreck in my reference library so far. Still gathering that material up.
The etch is very fine isn't it?
