Hi guys new to the forum, this is my WIP on Tamiya's USS Fletcher in the Solomons on her first deployment. I've added Eduard, Tom's models etch sets with resin Borfors and Main guns. Also did some scratch building(not much just added structure supports etc). Used life colour paints, weathered with oils. Just got to small AA guns, Search lights and railings. Then a matt coat, with pastels. Will do the rigging once the ship is added to the sea base and the base is complete. Any Criticism is more then welcome to help me improve.

Regards Rodney

I'm no expert on ships at all, but this does please my eyes quite a bit. Your water effects are pretty cool and the weathering looks great.  [biggrin][biggrin][biggrin]

I'm not a ship builder either but I see a lot of nice detail and the water base is outstanding! Do those kits come with color call-outs?

Nice work Crossy. Water effects look great. I'm curious about the colour too? Is that some artistic licence? I'm used to ships being their usual boring grey. I do like what you've done. Looks very .. Iron. The weathering detail is superb. [smile]

Thanks guys. This is my third ship(with a 1/700 WIP) and 1st in 1/350, I'm no expert either.

For the colour call outs I had to do a little research due to tamiya showing mixes and the Ship is in cam on their box and instructions. When she got to the solomon all tin cans were to be in this cam scheme. Their were no photo's of her from September/October 1942 - Jan/Feb1943. The 43 photo showed her in this cam. and chipped. So used artistic license for it. For the ocean I went to riot art and got some cheap water colour oils, Used rough mix 50% pacific Blue and 50% Cobalt blue. And mixed to my eye. Used a cheap glass jar from a cheap shop so i would have enough. I did experiment a little to find the right colour. For the wake I just add white. and inside the wake i added mint green. I'm still learning as this was my third attempt. For the Ocean you only really need to use a few colours. I would recommend for the Pacific Cobalt Blue/Atlantic Ultramarine Blue, Plus with White, black, Grey and a minty green. This is the guy I'm learning off Chris Flodberg http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=155661 used the styrofoam version. I was also deployed to the Solomons in 2003 so saw a fair bit of the ocean.

Sorry for the late reply was sick and am organising my hobby room for my cabinet

Regards Rodney

Just an update. Matt varnish on going to blend her into the sea base next. Not 100% happy but lessons learnt. Will use white glue for the railings as super glue was to inflexible for me. A few other things but live and learn. Any C&C are more then welcome
