Hi Folks!

Been wanting to do this build ever since I saw this plane fly along side of us back in September. Was a pretty cool sight indeed!

Have a bunch "O" Aftermarket goin along with this.....

Well on to the Pics

Here she is back in September.... A bit faded from 1st pic which was taken in 2013 I think....

Started with the Upper Fuselage..... Requires the front cockpit/Nose section to be removed for the SU-30 specific nose.... Old bit removed......

New Piece....

Installed alignment tabs.... These will be removed once the join is dry and solid

And All Glued in place..... Lookin pretty good to I might add....

And Test fit with the lower Fuselage.... No Drama there either I hope! LOL

Sorted out the Nose graft.... Was pretty simple which totally surprised me!

Resin Wheel Wells / Inner Main Wheel Well covers installed and primed... Pretty straight forward

Cockpit tub sorted and ready for a wash and some weathering

Built up the PE Pilot IP on the Fret... It's a total replacement for the plastic IP

Back Seaters IP

Lower Forward nose PE antenna base plates installed.... This is why I like to post updates.... I cant see worth a damn! Clearly I need to clean them up a bit more lol

And Finally... My attempt at seamless intakes..... By no means an expert on SU's, but It would be nice to look down the intakes and see a reasonably smooth trunk. Carved out all the alignment pins and filled all the little holes and such with liquid styrene... We'll see how they turn out....

Well thats it for now.....

Thanks for looking!

Dave

Hi Dave, very exciting project! Beautiful plane, glad you build it. The nose-job is incredibly precise, I'm impressed!
One more week and I'm on my way to Japan ;-)

Oh, that's a fair amount of aftermarket parts! Looking forward to follow your progress with this beautiful plane!!

Totally agree with you about posting photos, you learn a lot by looking at your own close-ups.

Continuing on with the Intakes.....

PE is applied for the FOD Screens and the Intake Louvers

And finally Installing on the lower Fuselage half..... Figured installing them now would allow for adjusting any steps. So far it's looking pretty good.... But some seam work will be required... But not a ton....

Thanks for looking!

Dave

LOL Thanks Fabian! Actually they weren't too bad... But I have found that keeping the louvers from getting bent is a pain.... Finally taped some plastic card over them to protect! lol

Ok folks... Next Update!

Finished mounting the Nacelles. Not perfect but Close enough for me....

Painted the Compressor Blades. 1st painted with intake color, then using a circle template, painted gloss black, then Vallejo Metal Color Chrome.

Installed the blades.... As you can see there are gaping holes on the upper corners. I guess theoretically with the fuselage all closed up it shouldn't matter, But ......

You can see it never the less with the upper fuselage off

Cut some Card stock and painted the intake color and glued to the back of the compressors. Forgot to take a pic of them installed but I think ya smell what I'm steppin' in! Lol

And it looks a bit better.....

Then Closed up the Fuselage.... This was a challenge..... took about 4 hours to do sections at a time.... Started on the rear corners then the front corners... One at a time letting the glue set about an hour each corner. The rear was a pretty shocking fit and it will need some work, The front not so bad..... This is how it looks after initial clean up and prime.... Not too bad, just need to sort out the front 2 seams a touch......

Well that's all for now.....

Thanks for looking!

Dave

Small update... This is slowing a bit due to the filling and re-scribing that is required.....

Before throwing the nose on, I added some weight to the nose just to be safe... With resin motors and Vert Stabs, I didn't wanna chance it being tail heavy.....

Then sealed with some clear glue....

Resin nose didn't fit that well..... Had to choose if I wanted an under contour on the upper or lower half as it fit perfectly if aligned to either the top or the bottom. I chose a good fit on the top..... Used super glue to attach..... Funny thing is the second the glue cured after hitting it w kicker, I realized if I had taken a thick razor saw and sawed notches along the upper/lower fuselage seams about half an inch back...... I probably could have pulled them closed to make a better fit..... But I left as is.... Used miliput to fill the step..... This is the final result..... Looks good to me....

Aft fuselage seams sorted, But they look kinda bare..... There wasn't any detail at all....

So I randomly threw a few random panels. Looks a bit better... Just wish I could have thrown some rivets on them.... But I just couldn't be bothered LOL

Well thats it for now

Thanks for looking

Dave
