Hi All! Just finished this one up today...

Took an A-4M Kit and ordered up the B Specific sprues from Hasagawa.

Other AM used was Superscale decals Quickboost Guns, Bombs from a HAS Weap Set and an Eduard Pit PE Set. Paints used were Mr Paint, Tamiya and Mr Color.

Thanks for looking

Dave

Tomcat some very nice workmanship. Very precise and like the understated weathering.
In fact superb effects. Those lovely wisps of almost transparent paint in the right places.

Like the fact you did not go for pre weathering which for me takes away all your options
you are stuck with it.

Superb model. Also like you photo presentation.

Interested to know Dave what airbrush/needle nozzle/PSI/paint and how much thinner.

Have my own technique but always after trying improvements.

Like your technique and wonder how close to mine.

Hey Laurie!

I used my Creos Procon Boy PS-270 (Mr Hobby) with a .13 needle. This has a built in mac valve.

I used Mr Paints on this kit. These are ready to shoot straight out of the bottle. So no thinning is required.

I used a drop or 2 of retarding agent just to keep the paint from drying on the needle

As far as PSI... Very Low! I used the mac valve to drop the pressure to almost nothing... Just high enough so the airbrush wouldn't struggle with the paint. The Mr Paints require slow build up at low pressure at close proximity to the kit... 1 or 2 Cms? This gives great control over coverage. And doing it this way keeps paint consumption to a minimum. It would be so easy to blow thru a bottle of paint shooting at what we would consider normal pressures (20-30 PSI) In this case Slow and steady equals great coverage and minimal paint use.....

I really am liking the Mr color paints.... This is the 1st time I have used them exclusively for the base colors on a build. They are just awesome!

Thanks for your interest and I hope this helps...

Dave

Thanks Dave very interesting.

For the record I use for effects a Micron Iwata. Down to about 8 to 10 PSI.

I use Lifecolor Acrylic. I use Vallejo Flow Improver 50% with 50% Lifecolor. This is very thin and
gives the maximum chance, I think, for the amount and spread of the paint. A plus if there is
an error it can be wiped immediately.

I prepare by using a matt varnish. I find this gives a batter effect at the edges than using gloss
varnish as a base.

Thanks for your info.

Laurie

Hi Dave, nice to see another great build from you! Tried the Mr color paints just once. Sprayed really nice but they smell so bad... sticking to acrylics for now ;-)

Thanks Fabian!

Yea the Lacquers are a bit smelly... But the Mr Paints aren't as bad at the Mr Colors...

Dave...Extremely nice lightly weathered finish on this build.  Well done indeed!  I would have never thought about trying to get different model sprues from the manufacturer.
