Hi All.... I have been wanting to build an F-1 for a while now.... So figured why not now...

Searched all the LHS's here for a Pre-2009 boxing of the kit because I wanted a kit with Cartograph Decals.... Hasegawa stopped using Cartograph around that time on there "Special" Boxings and just used their own. Me and Has Decals don't play well with each other! LOL

Managed to find this one and the Platz/Eduard PE pit set.... So was lucky in that regard.... Ordered in some Masks and some wheels too....

The scheme is gonna be a challenge.... Although the kit gives complete decals for the tail and the option to paint the tail and apply minimal decals.... But the tanks have to be painted and the call outs for the colors so do not match....

On to the pics!

Started and finished the pit last night and buttoned up the fuselage....

Figured before I got too far along I'd better put some nose weight in.....

So I grabbed a blob of Blue Tac (Kids Color version LOL) and pushed it in thru the nose and kneaded with a Chisel handle until it created a disk just in front of the Pit tub...

Then filled with Liquid Gravity and sealed with Loctite GO2 Glue...

Since I Had to wait for that to set.... Decided to see if I could match the paint.... Went to the LHS this afternoon and picked up a bunch of paint that may work....

Ended up using these

This Gundum color was an almost dead match for the lighter color.... Mixed it with 3 drops of the white in the color cup

And Used Character Blue mixed with equal parts of the Gundum Light Blue and the White

Masked the Tanks

And here is how it turned out.... Pretty OK I thinks!

Worked seams on the Fuselage up to the point of assembly to this point....

1st impression is ok I think.... 1st go after primer...

Then after I was looking at the box I noticed that the Dark blue was actually Darker than what the decals showed... I was so into matching the decal, I didn't realize that they were wrong! I did have to match the lighter blue because the Fwd Vertical Stripe on the decal does match the lighter blue on the aft of the tail and tanks... So nothing lost there..... So I re masked the tanks and re shot the Dark blue in the call out.

Looks much better

Thanks for looking....

Dave

Dave,
already loving the work you have done. I do very detailed WIP threads but I really wish I could do my threads more like yours. Key pictures and narrative make a great thread. looks like a nice kit and you have got a banging start. look forward to more.

Installed the Nose landing gear section and primed.....

Istalled the Lower aft fuselage piece... Basically from the MLG Bay all the way aft And Primed

And couldn't resist decaling one of the drop tanks.... Was dying to see if I did ok on the demarcation line between the 2 colors.... Looks good to me!

Hi All!

Small update:

Not much really to report on construction..... Pretty straight forward....No reall issues at all....

Primary construction pretty much completed and primed the model with AK Grey Micro Filler Primer...

Also worked the motors.... These things are pretty tiny so didn't get to involved..... Used Mr Color Steel and Burnt metal on the inner pieces. Used a Ink wash on the nozzle Cone.... And used AK Xtreme Titanium on the exhaust shroud. Followed by a coat of the Gauzy Agent to protect....

Next up.... Primary Paint....

Thanks for looking!

Dave

Thanks Heaps Ted! Yea this one is really coming together! It's doin wonders for my Mojo!

Got a little more work done tonight.....

did the metal work on the tail.....

Mr Color Gloss Black Base

AK Xtream Steel 1st coat....

Then Highlighted with AK Xtream Jet Exhaust and Stainless

Unfortunately the Pics really don't do the effort justice..... Looks far better to the naked eye than in pic form

Will let it set overnight and tomorrow will mask and then work the primary paint...

Thanks for looking!

Dave

You definitely got the Mojo going! your thread is a primer [no pun intended, well, maybe a little?] on the steps of building and initial paint work. the paint scheme is a real eye catcher IMHO.
