Now I've got my GB build out of the way I've got this back on the bench.

Ted, if I remember I'll take the next pic with the obligatory banana for scale

here's the latest shots from the last couple of days. (banana for scale included [wink] )

couple of bits and bobs to tidy up here.  the upper helm needs some more details adding too but I'm really happy with how the grid looks.

interior's just about done, though I think I've overdone the chipping on the foot plates so I'll probably paint over them to knock it back a bit.

now I just need to sort the glasswork out on the wheelhouse and I can button it down.
from then on it's just a case of doing all the external railings etc.

more coming soon.

I decided to get the glazing sorted as the kit parts are about as much use as a chocolate fire guard.

DSC_0031.jpg

and to do it I'm adapting an idea from Fabian.

DSC_0027.jpg

to start with I cut all the windows off the sprue and separate them (i'm doing them one at a time so I don't mix them up).

then apply masking tape to the outer face.

DSC_0032.jpg

I then gently sand the masking at the edge to get the masking tape to the same shape as the window.

DSC_0033.jpg

then I remove the tape and stick it to the clear styrene sheet

DSC_0034.jpg

then its just a case of cutting and sanding up to the edge of the masking tape until the shape is correct.

DSC_0036.jpg

carefully glued in the new windows with some pva canopy glue

DSC_0038.jpg

not quite careful enough though.  will scrape the messy bit away when the glue is dry.

DSC_0040.jpg

I think you'll agree the clarity is far better now.  note the glass in place on the left and no glass in the centre and right.

might be half a chance of seeing the interior detail now [smile]

Looks great. A much better solution than using the kit glass, that's for sure. [smile]

All the glass is in.

fitting the wheelhouse to the hull now (a terrible fit that needed a dremmel taking to the internal parts but just about down now.  gluing in stages looks like the way to go.

DSC_0042-2.jpg

one problem that I have though is the Mr Metal colour buffable aluminium paint I've used on the window frames and the railing fixtures has transferred to my clumsy fingers and found its way onto the rest of the paintwork [angrysmiley18]

DSC_0042.jpg

I'm open to suggestions on getting rid of it without damaging the underlying paint. [help]
