I'm going a bit simpler this time around so I can focus more on my painting and weathering rather than fighting with gaps, re-scribing etc.

I've already put together R2D2 and R5D4 from Bandai and the quality of these kits is just brilliant.

I'll probably get started in the next couple of weeks.  I want to get my red arrows build finished off first so I don't end up with too many builds going on at the same time. (much like Bobby).

In the mean time here's Phil Flory with the Kit review:

meanwhile.. in a galaxy far far away....

I couldn't wait to get started with my build and... well.. once I started I got on a bit of a roll..

DSC_0019.jpg

you can probably get away with not painting these kits but with the level of detail on these parts it'd be criminal not to show them off to their best.

so into primer went the gunmetal coloured parts:
DSC_0020.jpg

then a coat of mr metal colour dark iron and some buffing really brought the cockpit to life.
the detail I think you'll all agree is stunning, so much so you'd think it was resin not styrene.

I took some licence on the seat padding and used some German uniform grey.  I think it matches well with the canopy colour I'll be using later on.

DSC_0022.jpg

using the decal sheet as a guide the instruments were simple enough to hand paint with a cocktail stick.
then when the paint had dried I rubbed over the dials with a clean stick and this buffed up the metal colour to give a nice metal ring around them.

DSC_0023.jpg

the main body of the fuselage goes together brilliantly and has some fantastic detail on its own.

DSC_0024.jpg

this only gets better with all the piping you add.  there are however a couple of these rods of styrene that are really brittle.
it could just be where they are in the mould or just that they are really thin but I had a couple snap on me.
easily fixed with a bit of glue though so no real harm done.

DSC_0025.jpg

I pre-masked the dark iron parts in the engine before assembling around them.  when I've painted the outside of the engine I'll get the masking tape off with some tweezers.

DSC_0026.jpg

I masked the canopy up and fitted it in place just to protect the cockpit.

DSC_0027.jpg

everything was going brilliant until...

DSC_0028.jpg

WOOPS! [rolleyes]... apparently I don't know my own strength and managed to crush this piece.

DSC_0031.jpg

luckily though the plastic broke relatively cleanly and I was able to get it back into the right shape and glue it back together.

DSC_0034.jpg

with only a couple of pieces left to fit I could call this one done [smile]... but I wont

DSC_0035.jpg

into the spray booth and a coat of grey Stynylrez with everything.

DSC_0037.jpg

next it'll be painting and weathering to bring this thing to life.

I cant tell you how much I'm enjoying this build. [biggrin]
