Hi guys, happy new year and best wishes to all of you. I’m very happy to join this GB. As I failed to finish the last one my mojo is high to get this one started. Initially I have planed to build the the mig-15 by Eduard but as Bobby has covered this already in his recent live-build I decided otherwise. Small scale means big birds :-)I got this kit from my lovely mother-in-law last Christmas, a great model to enter the Group build. The B-17 is an iconic plane and looks awesome. Can’t wait to get this started so here are the sprue shots and a ton of PE for endless fun!

Nice choice.  Can't go wrong  with a 'Fort.  Good luck with the build.

Awesome looking kit and can't wait to follow along.

This GB is turning out to be all about the 4 engine bombers!!!!!  Love it.

Thank you guys. Looks a little like a second bomber GB indeed. Pretty sure this will change when more people are joining in. I fixed the pictures, hope you can see them now without clicking on each link.

Very interesting not built a Fortress although they were flying around Europe when I was
about a 5 year old. Did not see one at all. But then lived in Surrey & most Fortresses flew
I believe from around East Anglia.

Are those raised panel lines Fabian ?

Hi Laurie, luckily the panel lines are luckily not raised. The kit is actually quite nice and molded on 2010, so not very old. The silver color gives it an old school look. I will try to get some rivets in there to liven up the big surfaces. Let’s see how this works out.

For me it's a simple matter of available display space.  Most of my kits are 1/48, with a handful of 1/32.  But I realised if i wanted any of the four-engine heavies in my collection, even though they are available in 1/48, I simply would run out of room.  So I have the big guns in 1/72.
Then, given the aforementioned limited space, what do I go and do?  Buy the Revell Bv-222 flying boat and the Italeri Me-323 Gigant transport, both six-engined monsters!  I am my own worst enemy!

Hi Fabian,

I definitely LOVE these bombers... all of them. I watched some documentaries telling us about the conditions the crews had to face during there raids... these guys where incredibly courageous. I will follow your work with attention.

Alain.

Spending some hours today cutting the first parts and PE parts... lots of PE parts. No big progress but it's a start [smile]

Well done Fabian. Those details are simply incredible !! I never been using PE before and it makes me a bit nervous. But once I'll be at that step of the building I will have no choice to try to do my best.

Thats looking great Fabian, Bobby did a good live on PE this week, Trumpeter do a decent bender, £20 for the small and £35 for the bigger one like he uses.

For PE I really suggest getting 1, even for 1:72

Keep up the good work on the fortress, I remember making one when younger and they truely are a "flying fortress with all those guns" [crazy]

Looks like good progress to me!  The important thing to remember about p.e. is that you don't have to use all of it.  Most of the kits I have built have had some p.e. in them, but I made choices as I went as to how much would be seen, and did they make a visible difference.  On the Tomahawk the p.e. set had some cooling flaps to go under the fuselage, but the instructions were not at all clear, so rather than botch it up I left those pieces out.  It's all down to you, and what you're comfortable with.

No reason to get nervous Alain, just take your time and I’m sure it will turn out great.
