Otherwise it would appear in the USA they use ISA as a medical cleaner so it might be an idea to try a local pharmacy or two, or a hospital

Good luck Neil,

Believe it or not but I tried Squadron for some True Detail !/32 parachutes at $9.00 each...The shipping over to the UK was quoted at $45.00...  Now for a small jiffy bag packet that is taking the P***.

I tried asking for an alternative price but Squadron stopped responding...

Excellent customer service IMO

Ah the local pharmacy....Well I tried,  where I live the main Boots branch, Lloyds Pharmacy, Sainsburys, Asda, Tescos (I think) in fact all of the locals within 10 miles...  They had all heard of it and used to stock it but had recently ceased when they had people going in to buy it for medicinal purposes.  Not the rubbing on medicinal, the internal kind..

I'm baffled that some people would drink it. They must be desperate which is a shame.

Well at least they ,Squadron, seem to have replied to you but total intransigence on the postage on there part...

Hi All

I am new to the website and the home brew video was worth the subscription monthly fee. I mixed my first batch today and used it with Tamiya paints. The paint laid down nice and smooth, thanks for the video Bobby. I do have a question, has anyone used the home brew with Model Masters Acryl? If so, could I get some feedback on how it worked.

Thanks
Ken

Ken:

I have used the home brew thinner almost exclusively with the Model Master Acryls and it has worked just fine. No issues at all.

You can buy IPA in Maplins its used for cleaning electrical parts,i think its also known as surgical spirits, The main reason they dont like you to buy it is because its used in the production of some cannabis based products  ( man )

Thanks for the info Fred and Ted. I used the home brew today with MM Acryl on my P-51B and it came out great, better than the universal stuff.

Thanks Again

Glad you had a positive result! I got acquainted with IPA when I worked around surgery for many years. I guess that is why it is sometimes referred to as "Surgical spirits". Back in the day they washed a surgery patients skin with betadine, they rinsed with sterile water. Now they wash with betadine OR provoiodine, and rinse with IPA.What that has to do with models I don't know. I'm a fountain of useless info!

Will 91% IPA work? 99.9% is not readily available.

I have used 91% from the beginning, no problems. someone suggested using a bit less water since the ISP concentration is lower? The 99% is harder to find, 3-4X more expensive, plus shipping. Most pharmacies have the 91% where I live [USA, Tennessee]. I also found it at WalMart.

91% will strip acrylic paint, KLEAR/PLEDGE, as well as Mr. Surfacer 1000 also.

Thanks Ted.   [thumb]    I was going to mix 50/50 91% IPA and water since the  99% IPA is more difficult to obtain.  It can't be that much different.  70% is another story.
