Yep too late for 2017 but .... I like this idea and I didn't want to forget it so I thought I'd chuck it in here as a kind of place holder for the next round of GB proposals etc.

Would add a nice personal touch to ones build would it not ? I should add preferably with the correct markings and registration numbers etc. for that extra personal touch anyhow it leaves room for a lot of scope and seeing as the more open GB's seem to be more popular so it's worth floating this idea for the next GB - Sounds like you have a few to choose from Gerry for me it's a handful of R22's, a Scheiwzer (Hughes) 300, a Hughes MD 500 for the helicopters I've flown, plus some Jetrangers and Bell47's for helis I've flown in. And for the fixed wings I've piloted a Chipmunk, Robin 2000, Extra 300, Pitts Special S2, Piper Warrior, a Luscombe Silvair and a bunch of Cessna 150's oh yeah and a few paragliders too but that would be a tricky subject to model Also been a passenger in a microlight and an old open cockpit wooden glider which was fun as well as being a passenger in few airliners but have no clue as to their registrations etc. Note that I haven't crashed anything (yet although some of my paraglider landers might blur that particular line haha But I've managed to walk away from them all with no damage to the paraglider I also owned a Cessna 120 for a year but never got to fly it but that's another story I suppose one could include family members to make ones selection a little broader ? Basically it's a theme where you choose a vehicle that has some personal relevance to each model builder Never driven any tanks though, but would love to ! driven a few boats and a home made land yacht, plus a few uninteresting cars. Obviously there's buses and trains etc. too Anyhow I figure it could make for interesting GB with lots of personal stories

Including family members opens up a whole can of worms as my dad was navy but worked a lot with the raf especially at wittering on harriers

I like the sounds of this GB idea. I even have an Italeri 1/48 kit of a North American Harvard that I planned to build after one that I flew in 2 summers ago. Can't wait for the 2018 GB proposals to open so I can vote for this idea Great thinking Paul.

Maybe we should start the next round of GB proposal right away ? haha Glad you like the idea chaps, it's kind of a spin off idea from my entry to the "Where You From" GB Tim, you can't leave the story there mate, do go on and tell us more ! Got a picture of it ? There's a Harvard in WW2 US Navy dark blue colours at my local airport, looks and sounds great ! last time I checked, a while ago now, it was £500 for thirty minutes, I was very tempted at the time but every spare penny was going towards heli lessons etc. so I didn't do it. Caroline Grace has one of the few dual seat Spitfires in operation today, that is also tempting, very tempting but at £2500 a go it will have to remain on the wish list (I would hope that £2500 is per hour) But i figure to give this as broad an appeal as possible for a GB idea I reckon it ought to be the "Personal Story GB" where if grandad flew Spitfires etc. in the war or whatever, a modelling subject that relates to one on a personal level Preferably with photos and the story behind it etc. Tim, will you be joining in the current GB ? Hope so mate

Well the story is....... I am very fortunate to live about a 30 minute drive away from the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and for the last 5-6 years I have been a member of the museum. You may have heard of this museum as it has one of the two remaining Lancasters that are airworthy (and might I add that between May and November it flies twice a day almost every weekend). I love going there for a few hours on the weekend with my kids and just walking around. They have many planes at the museum, most are airworthy, including a B-25, seafire, several Harvards, 2 DC-3's among others. Part of being a member of the museum is that you have the opportunity to fly in any of the planes at the museum all ranging in price from $3500 cdn for an hour in the Lancaster to $100 for 20 mins in the DC-3. 2 summers ago I was lucky and was given the gift of a 30min flight in one of their North Amercian Harvards. What an amazing experience from the pre-flight check of the plane to sitting in the cockpit on the runway with the canopy wide open waiting to take off to pulling 1.5 G's in a sharp turn. The highlight for sure was when the pilot let me take the controls and fly for a little while. Here is a pic of the actual plane I flew in.....North_American_Harvard_220 by Tim Ashton , on Flickr right after my flight I purchased the kit and an aftermarket decal sheet so that one day I could build the same plane that I flew in. I hope this makes it as a group build soon so that I can read similar stories that others have. Tim
