Hello all,

I'm happy to join this GB with a legend: the Hawker Hurricane :-), an alltime favourite of mine.

It's a quite old Airfix kit (so old that some of the parts already fell off the sprues) and I'll do it mostly out of the box. As aftermarket piece I will use the cockpit displays by Yahu; so there is a lot of room for improvements and scratch building. Looking forward to start with the work :-).

Thank you, guys! Any support is appreciated very much [smile].

I have some nice ideas for a diorama as well as for scratch building. However, as I am not so familiar with the rules for the GB, I ask myself whether a diorama is allowed or not (maybe a silly question?). Have you got any advice?

PS: did some first dry fitting today.... the kit is really old, I have to order some additional sanding sticks ;-).

You are allowed to use and build what ever you like. As long as it is in the timeframe it’s all good :-)

Hi all
After finally finishing my current project, a little Hellcat, I could start with the Hurricane today. To get an idea of the authentic look of this airplane and particularly the details of cockpit, gun bay, engine etc. I did during this time some Internet research and found tons of helpfull pictures. Very inspiring!

I decided to start with a dry fit of the main body of the plane to get an idea for the size of the diorama and the fit of the model. Looks not that bad.
First step shall be the gun bays, just to have something to finish ;-). A load of pinmarks is the work slowing down a bit, but it's fun anyways.

Got also some additional parts for the diorama as well today. So the work can progress.  000_hellcat.jpg  001_dryfit.jpg  002_pinmarks everywhere.jpg  004_dryfit gun bay.jpg  005_zusätzl figuren.jpg

Yes, there are many details :-)! I like that scale very much, it's impressive.
However, it's a little bit a fight with this kit but I hope, I have some pictures with my progress soon.

Isn't it odd that a larger scale would have problems? seems like it would be easier to mold, etc.?

Yes, it is!
It feels like that the mold is still the original one. btw: the kit is from the late 70s or early 80s ;-).
However, the fit is not that bad but pinmarks and flash on almost every part, hehe.

Oh...I’ve been out of scale modeling so long I did not know that they molded 1/32 that long ago! Reports of state of the art 1/32 glow with praise, but that should be true for most all new molds?
