Painting begins [smile]

Under coated with Vallejo black primer, then a coat of Tamiya x1 gloss black (sorry lost photos of this stage)

I intend to paint each layer as a full paint job (even thou this layer will be covered almost completely, its a good place to practice techniques) Shade, highlight, fading etc.

Base coat metal layer

Vallejo metal colour Duraluminium (I'm very impressed by this stuff goes on beautifully when thinned slightly, and give a great metal colour and look)

looking good, I am liking this kit and if I ever I get the chance to buy one at a reasonable price I'll be sorely tempted [biggrin]

The temptation to just shade and highlight this stage and leave it is strong.
But I will resist

If All the AMT star wars kits are this nice I would be very tempted to get more (possibly a smaller scale as I van afford a new house to store them)

Haha, I imagine that it's hard to spray over this nice metal look. Pop in some red eyes and you have a very cool looking spinoff :-)

Tempting but I will continue on (I may have to get a kit just to do a metal finish with this paint)

Highlights for metal
Vallejo metal colour Aluminium

Doesn't show up in most pics so only a few for this stage

[snapseed-55_zpsp5rhvhe7]
[snapseed-53_zpslriquxrd]
[snapseed-52_zpszow3gcry]

Next stage shade

Vallejo metal colour Magnesium (not cleanest lines and spray pattern but not to worried as its pretty much entirely covered by next stage)

Yes just trying to decide what technique to use

Chipping solution or masking fluid (or possibly both)

Looking at images from films they have lots of small scratches on droid and some heavy wear on front edges of stap,

I shall go through images again and see if it helps me make a decision

Finally got some time with model

Masked all the metal parts with tape and masking fluid, gave everything a coat of Chipping fluid

Next a coat of Vallejo model air rust

[DSC_6177-01_zpsvxsnyojb]
