Some progress again:

[028_Warp_shadow_killer_Second_wing-800]
Second wing is attached, not too much new to report: Fit was not too good, not terrible, but you can see white putty in places where fit let something to desire. You can clearly see also the holes I drilled for wing guns. (proportions seems very odd in this picture..)

My mojo is quite down now, no Whitestar shown in series yet... Redoing the the primer paint cote, sanding and polishing and those veins too, time consuming and feels like nothing is going forward. After some hard work, at least some progress can be seen if you look closely enough (at least new angle from bottom):

[029_Warp_shadow_killer_Second_spike-800]

Spikes are painted and on the wings attached too. On the fuselage they are just there for show as they would interfere with decals. How many times I sanded those spikes through to the metal.. I lost count. I invented something that helped 'sanding' those hard places: I re-hydrated Tamiya primer with yellow caped Tamiya thinner and used brush to blend paint to the old one. Not perfect but little bit easier in places where sanding sticks can't reach.

I'm in the middle of second season, no Whitestar yet, they just introduced Rangers..

This model really eats my mojo:

I thought that it would be nice to try some decals so that I could feel that there is something happening in this build:

[030_Warp_shadow_killer_decal_disaster-800]

I read the instructions and they stated that using some decal softener is ok, so I used some MicroSel/Sol and this was what happened.. They are quite mild softeners, so I thought that some more strong would repair that thing but even I tried Mr mark softner and Tamiya yellow capped thinner, nothing happened. I did normal thing with this: I put first decal to that side that is not immediately seen. It was inside of this part, so that will not be first thing to notice and it is not that bad if light is not reflecting from those..

Next I tried to paint those patterns:
[031_Warp_shadow_killer_paint_disaster-800]

I used Tamiya clear blue and I thought that I have varnished  the underlaying paint with Alclad klear kote, but now I think it was Aqua gloss as after a while the paint reacted the underlaying layer as can be shown...
[032_Warp_shadow_paint_remove-800]
I had to remove the paint and this is the wing in current state.

I didn't fully gave up yet, so I returned to decals
[033_Warp_shadow_killer_decals_ok-800]
Now I didn't use any softening solutions, and there was only some small imperfections in the surface, those decals were a bit thick, but I didn't have courage to use anything to that. [034_Warp_shadow_killer_decals_ok-800]
My vein effects worked as I had hoped for and some positive progress was achieved after all those disasters.

Choppa Nutta: I don't leave this build half way as I started it as public build it is my duty to finish it (someone might be following it), but it would help if I could enjoy the build.. Every part needs some blending (and re-painting) so it is not just final assembly as you could think in normal kit.

I really have to get to third season, if it helps with mojo, two disks left in season 2..

Did you try Tamiya Extra Thin on the awkward areas of the decals ?
apparently on difficult to deal with decals this can work quite well [smile]

Still though the decal over the veins looks very effective indeed, it's given the surface a real feeling of depth,
few more gloss coats etc. and it'll look like alien skin [smile]

Glad you're soldiering on with it, well.... you are duty bound after all [wink]
testament to your skill and patience that you're making a good job of a difficult build [thumb] [smile]
half way through season 3 [biggrin]

I tried Tamiya Extra thin and everything I could find in my arsenal, no effect. Luckily I started from part that is not too clearly seen in ready model.

After B5 marathon I'm now in third season and in second episode where is one of my favorite scenes: Elevator scene with G'Kar and Londo...

[038_Warp_shadow_killer_decals_ok-800]
Here is the newest  decal.. No touching afterwards, no softeners and too big decal with trimming after it has dried. I'm very satisfied, the texture is not showing so stark in reality..

Of course there is some frustrations too:
[035_Warp_shadow_killer_wing_paint_wra-800]
Something reacted with my Tamiya surface primer (three times) and it went funny looking.. therefore I had to do something else:
[036_Warp_shadow_killer_tail_seam-800]
Huge seam, which is not suitable for partly living  ship, especially when there is no decal for that place.
[037_Warp_shadow_killer_tail_blend-800]
Blending those parts together has started...

shame about the reactive surface issue, more Pledge Klear/Future ? [smile]

I like the texture the decal gives the surface, came out better too !!

Yeah season 3 is good [biggrin]

I don't know what was wrong with that wing surface paint, but with Tamiya clear blue it was obvious that I had wrong clear cote. But as I guessed at start the primer for final coat is not the best idea. Now I handled if with fourth time as I used my old bottle.

I got my mojo back as I watched third season or because this finally starts going forward and I know what (not) to do with those decals. Now I haven't got enough time to work with this model but I got some progress after all:

[039_Warp_shadow_killer_decals_bottom_half-800]

The veins on the upper wing seems to be too dark/thick, maybe  I paint some faint light grey (I wonder what color as the primer is out of the question) over those.

good to see more progress, the colour is very effective [smile]

Seeing as you've done the left wing already I would leave the right wing as is and decal it for symmetries sake [smile]

Some decals later, which some are not seen:

[040_Warp_shadow_killer_decals_bottom_all-800]

There was no decals for the spikes (not attached yet). So I had to mix some Tamiya paints for them XF-8 and X-7 (first I tried Tamiya clear blue but it was too blue). Those on the fuselage still needs to be darkened and something, but those on the wings I'm quite satisfied. The one on the side is the bridge witch is going on the top side at the last stages of the build. Next the spikes for the upper side of the wing...

Some new view from bottom with engine pod decals in place:
[041_Warp_shadow_killer_decals_bottom_all-800]

Choppa Nutta: The thing hanging out of the top pod is electrical wire which becomes pin  to be attached to the ship. It is so long now because it is nice handle, it will be shortened..

[042_Warp_shadow_killer_decals_top_start-800]

Top side got also some decals and those spokes are now attached to the top wing also.. I spared all the most complicated decals for last..
