I've been back in the hobby now for around 6 months, made quite a few discoveries of items intended for other uses that repurpose very nicely, nice to know not all important tools have to cost a lot of money. I've gotten so many ideas from you all and I hope to reciprocate with these-

First, plastic plates from the dollar store with primer applied to test paint flow before airbrushing - 5/$1.00

PVC pipe T's - to elevate the workpiece (I use a lot when decaling) and as a drying rack - 2x 1/2" and 2x3.4" all for ~$1.50:

Painter's triangles - same as above, but less contact area, 10 were ~$5
[20140707_232335_zpsawfis752]

Circle template -$4; use in scratch building as as a quick and completely functional wheel mask

Embossing light box $5 - use to backlight canopies when masking so I can see where to cut
[20140707_232402_zpspd3kedxr]

Coffee/Tea warmer $3 - keeping my beverage at the perfect temperature 90% of the time, and keeping water warm for decaling the other 10%

Here you go pete. You can either heat or cool a beverage with a flip of a switch.
