Thanks -- I wasn't sure, exactly. My father built full-sized canoes using forms for the planking. I'll be interested to see how Bobby does the hull planking on the Victory. I find it very difficult. I did learn that soaking the planking strips in water with fabric softener for a little while makes them much easier to bend around the ribs. But the trimming nd shaping doesn't get any easier.

Bobby,
Just watched the latest episode in the build of the HMS victory. Some of the finishing of the small boat. It is quite a different sensation to actually "craft" an object rather than assembly of a molded styrene kit. That is the same reason that good scratchbuilding is so rewarding. you are actually "creating" something from materials. My mom's whole family were masons [brick, block, concrete work]. That profession has a very high satisfaction rating becasue they build one piece at a time and at the end they can stand back and say that they built a structure to completion with their hands and simple tools.Many buildings in the city closest to me were worked on by my grandparents and uncles.
Kudos to you on your craftsmanship on this project. its exciting when you hold the nearly finished boat in hand and we see the culmination of all the careful steps! BRAVO!

Not sure if you are planning on adding lights to this build, but I've added some fake flickering candle lights in my Black Pearl. I found some cheap tea lights on eBay 10 for £2 complete with batteries.
Stripped the LEDs out and fitted them where needed, you can even dim the lights by reducing the voltage.
I also added some 0.25mm clear styrene windows / lenses with a Yellow wash to give an old stained look.
Hope this helps?

Here's a short video of one of the lanterns:

Hi friends;

...bit concerned that the work rate has fallen off here...I'm building alongside Bobby from Ascension Island where the post is unreliable and issues arrive in haphazard order[frown] so I rely on the videos! The last video post was 14/11/15 - 5 weeks ago! Can we only expect a video every 5 weeks?

Regards!

Hi All

Like a few people here I am building along with Bobby but I have encountered a problem!  DeAgostini do not have any copies of issue 23 and I have just received issue 58.  Despite chasing them and promises of a resolution, I am still waiting after 8 months [mad]
Would any of you be able to scan the build instructions and email over to me so I can get on with it?  Drop me a PM if you can and I will let you have my email address.

Regards

Chris

Great to see episode 15 up! Keep em coming[smile]

Does anyone else use the polycell product "polyfilla" as a general filler? I find it to be excellent - water soluble to any consistency, quick drying, sandable, minimal shrinkage...in my view this is to filling what Future is to gloss coating!
