Thanks Mike!
I lowered my Compressor setting, and tried to be be very careful about just finding that "bite point" as Bob describes. The paint just beginning to spray. I held Satan at a downward angle at first and AB into the lower recesses. I shot a bit straight into the wells of his eyes. Seems to be feeling much more correct than the path I was on before. the help you guys have tossed out has really saved me so far?

WIM,
thanks! all new turf for me. I have painted several military scale figures--like 1/48--but this is totally different. I guess its an experiment? well, I'm calling it that for good measure. Experiments fail and so do I.

here is a picture from today:

Did not know that the tamiya "smoke" was shiny---hmmmm. Oh well--it will go back fine with matt varnish later?

Today at UNIT 7, Satan received some AB highlight with Tamiya XF-2 Flat white. Had a bit of trouble with AB. May need to go back and add some mid tone [Gray] to calm some of that white spatter down a bit.

Decided to go back with the Vallego "smoke" to tone down certain areas of the white I AB yesterday.

LOL--Satan is a butt-head! May AB some red on carefully tomorrow?

I reckon some very thin coats of red dusted lightly over the shading will give you what you are looking for Ted, maybe clear red would give a nice effect, but would need a matt coat after as its very glossy like the smoke

I think you're not doing it on purpose but that light spattering is really going to work for you here. You should see some "age spots" and slight discoloration in the skin tones under the thinned down red misting. Use it to your advantage!  [biggrin][biggrin][biggrin][biggrin][biggrin][biggrin][biggrin][biggrin]

Pete, Mike
Thanks Guys!

I consider each recommendation by everyone who has commented. I watched the Zoom video several times. I have also looked at other online videos. the zoom vid was the only one where the figure was being painted red all over. I dropped my compressor down low, used my evolution AB, and pulled back on the trigger slightly to get the "biting point", .............then I proceeded like the ham fisted bull in a china shop ego I am---over sprayed the red a bit....bit...quite a bit.......[exhales]. I think I am going to work a bit more where I am at with the figure [mystery statement], then gloss him and apply some washes? The skin of Satan has a lot of cracks and fissures. I'll have to see where that takes me and go from there.

thanks again guys. never would have taken a stab at this at all without the good support [as always]

I hate to say it, but that bastid is looking good. Gloss it ted, and rub some red oil paint over the surface. I think you'll like what happens next.  [wink]
