Cheap as Chips - Rapid Monthly Mini Side Groupbuild for more Variety & Fun [biggrin]

Here is an idea that might appeal to beginner and expert a like.

The use of upgrades such as PE and resin parts etc. can do wonders for a model, especially in a competition. But they can be expensive particularly the Big Ed sets and larger resin packs with prices soaring well above the price of the original kit !!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rethink ! Perhaps excluding upgrades might be a bit too limiting for this one ?? -

(For us mere mortals this can be somewhat intimidating and can leave us feeling like winning is a distant hope. So with that in mind I thought this might be a good way to level the playing field by making this hopefully regular side event an Out Of the Box Build only with no upgrades. A limit on prices of kits could be around the £10 to £15 (or Euros), whatever we deem a cheap kit to be.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A mini fun event run along side the main event Groupbuild like this could offer a little something for everyone, newbies would have a much less intimidating chance to dip their toe, intermediate can concentrate on refining the fundamentals, experts can show us how to make the most out of a little by adding a little bit of scratch work and awesome paint jobs.

Plus on top of all of that we all get the satisfaction of completing a model quickly (not rushed). I think there is lots of good things to be learned from rapid builds, what's important & what's not, learning to prioritize, making your build space more efficient, refine judgment, decision making & problem solving skills, might encourage more scratch building, plus for anyone thinking of going Pro in some way this would be a good chance hone all the skills necessary.

More flexibility on topics too, some silly, comedy ones might be considered here but not for the big GB,
Some suggestions [smile]

The usual WW 1 & 2, cold war, desert wars fighter-bomber
Nam Fever, anything used in the Nam war
Anything 40's, 50's, 60's, or 70's, etc.
Farting Figures, any figure but posed as though farting
Crash landed, chosen topic of vehicle depicted in a crash scene
Neglected Kits, what could be cheaper than completing unfinished work
Fictional Racing Cars, a quick own design scratch build comp.
1/48 Spitfire or whatever the flavour of the month is..
Anything Silver, good practice for this particularly awkward finish
Anything yellow, or any other chosen awkward colour
Dogfight Doubles, 2 models mounted on a base in flight, wheels up.
Utter Chaos Free For All any colour you like [smile]
WW2 Kit Bash, everyone uses the same kit and turns it into something new
Diorama Drama, scratch build some scenery.
Fantasy Figures, including robots

A Groupbuild on a single aircraft design is unlikely a proposal for the main GB's but for the monthly one could be quite good [smile]

Prizes could be cheaper (or just one) to reflect the nature of the comp but it could also include a booby prize for the outright loser. Now I know that we like to encourage everyone and pointing out that they are the loser might seem counter intuitive at first but this could be made into a positive thing.

Nothing is more valuable than constructive critique, we need it to learn and improve, it's the best way to get better.
So the booby prize could be a lesson, a constructive breakdown of where they could improve and a list of tools and techniques that might help, give them a prize of a tool or paints etc. most suited to their needs to help them along.
You could also nominate the two runners up for the booby prize so the "winner" doesn't feel quite so alone & picked on [biggrin]
Could also be turned into something of a running joke, never did anyone any harm to laugh at them selves occasionally [smile]
One caveat though, no one can "win" this two months in a row, that might be misconstrued as bullying [biggrin]

So if you fancy a regular, light hearted & fun, cheap, rapid build with a flexible range of topics run along side the big Groupbuild then there really is only one way to vote,

Vote yes !! [biggrin] ((( [biggrin] )))  [biggrin]

I think you do have a good idea here. I didn't read this before I posted my thread. Basically the same idea, but you have clearly defined it and I just left it open.

I'm on board with this.

yay glad you like it [smile]

Obviously the one I am rooting for is the "Sci Fi - Fantasy - Spaceship Scratch & Bash"
I know you like to do some scratch building too so I'm hoping you might vote for that one too [smile]

I do like the idea of this as a Mini Side Bar Build though, cheap, quick turn around, and loads
of room for themes and ideas you wouldn't be able to do on a the normal big build like
"Farting Figures" for instance or other comedy ideas like "Glad That Didn't Happen To Me"
where you have to a dio of figures in a uncomfortable or dangerous position, slapstick style.

Another idea to chuck into this pot is that the "winner" of Bobby's Booby Prize gets to pick
next months theme occasionally, anyhow cheers for the vote ! [smile]

Haha if we could only vote twice ! lol [biggrin]

Anyhow, nice to know that you like the idea [thumb]

The nice thing about this one if Bobby likes it is that
it doesn't intrude on the main one so there is no reason
not to vote for it [biggrin]

Hence you can only vote "Yes" or "Yes", that and it
appealed to my sense of humour to do it that way [smile]
