A quick question mate, is the wheel raised up from the bottom of the mould so that the silicone can get under it ?

And after its cured do you split the mould in half ? I'm really trying to get my head around how it works

Pete

No mate, this is just one half of the wheel. I'll cast 2 and glue them together to make the full wheel.
It took me for ever to carve that half and thought....sod that to carving the other half.
Problem now is my silicone has gone passed its shelf life and won't pour. So need to get some more silicone.
How many of the booties do you need mate?

Ah that makes things a lot clearer as I was wondering how you were going to be able to make a mould of the other side of the wheel if it was resting on the bottom.

Would you be able to cast me 2 please mate ? I'm sure when I gave you that one I noticed I was missing a couple.

I'm hoping I'll be able to hacked them about a bit and get them to sit in the jeep but I'll need to get the plane built first as really struggling to find the enthusiasm for it at the moment.

I'm cracking on with my tank build until I can summon the minerals to get back at it

Was thinking of painting the tread pattern on...but decided to make things difficult for myself instead [biggrin]
I used 0.5mm styrene sheet as it's very flexible & the edges devolve when coated with pro weld to create a feather edge.

Steady little job sticking these on good job there's only 24

Once the centre was secured I wrapped some masking tape around just in case, then dabbed a little pro weld on the ends 3 at a time and held in place until dry.

Much happier with this one, a coat of primer should show up the lumps n bumps and may need another sanding

love it and quite a rapid build too [thumb]

Looking forward to the painting [wink] [biggrin]

Are you going to display on a base with a wee back drop,
maybe a print out from a screen shot of the game perhaps ? [smile]

Anyhow great work, the wheel is very effectively done

No mate, won't be using any background pickies, I'll be making the entire diorama from scratch.
There'll be a floor, wall and I plan on a door of some sort, theye'll also be a few props lying around and no doubt a few LEDs chucked for good measure [biggrin]

That's an incredible bit of work mate !

The tread on the tyre looks amazing and I still can't see how you managed to get those thin pieces of styrene to stick on with liquid cement without melting them.

Great to hear you are going full on diorama with this too, I really can't wait to see what you have in mind
