This is how my "crazy" idea developed.

I had a lot of hope in this technique, but I wonder if anyone can see the flaw...
To get this effect I had to do the intakes as highly polished chrome.

I invite any comments... don't hold back..leaving out the obvious rough paint work and the gaps, this is only taped together, dry.

I used an Acrlic Rod to connect the intake to the engine burner.

The beauty of this Rod is that it passes the light through it, much like Fibre Optics, only each strand is thicker and solid.

Phil did, mind you he was putting the lighting into a 1/32 scale version with programed electronics controlling the different flash rates. This1/72 scale Skyhawk hasn't even got room for a battery [wink]

you could squeeze an 80mah single cell lithium in there as used in the micro RC stuff [biggrin]
or run thin wires up the landing gear through the base [wink]

Nice one, thanks.

I think I might just leave that...a little over my head for me.
I would have liked to have learnt about RC, seems like a useful asset.

To be honest what you have done is brilliantly simple and effective,
an idea I shall be shamelessly stealing from you without guilt or shame btw [biggrin]

That said pulling apart the micro stuff aint so hard plus it's cheap [smile]
A little practice with a soldering iron and your away, chop the motor off and solder on a small LED and install etc.
finding a discrete place for the switch and charging socket is probably going to present more problems [biggrin]

Anyhow, you've circumvented all that faff by a bit of lateral thinking [smile]
Where did you get the idea btw ?

Steal away....

I use a slightly thinner rod for use on my Games Workshop Necron Gauss weapons.
They sent me the wrong size in error...told me no need to return them and sent out the correct size..

Have been wanting to use them for ages.

There is a slight problem in how I have used them. As soon as I put on the delta wings they don't work too well. It would seem the rod likes to draw in light along it's length.
So sleeping on the idea...... [wink]

when you photo it etc. point the light down the intakes perhaps ?
Another thought is to paint the sides of the rod with polished silver/chrome to keep the light inside it when it enters from the ends, do a test by wrapping it in tin foil perhaps.

there is room for an led if you fancy running the thin wires down the UC legs.

How are you planning to mount this btw ?
heavily weighted wheels with enough of a flat spot to keep it on it's hind legs if balanced properly ? [biggrin]
or are you going to drill holes underneath the wheels and pin it ?
metal UC might be handy here [smile]

Anyhow, I goggled Games Workshop Necron Gauss weapons and found this which I thought was cool
I like the look of this acrylic rod stuff, I take it comes in different colours ?
