Could it not be done by both? say we the members vote on what we think are the top builds then Bob can come in and pick the winners out of these? and I would throw in that no one can vote on their own build.

The last part of your suggestion is exactly why I have raised this issue Neil. Peer voting is messy, and it can get messier. Do participants vote at all? (thinking about it, I'd rather we didn't), how long do we have to vote? What happens if there's a tie? etc, etc.
I think from the comments in the reveal section, and the builds themselves, should make it obvious who the main contenders are. One umpire, one decision, and it's final. It's quick, clean and the builders can't be accused of any form of corruption. If that makes me over-suspicious, so be it. But I'm here to learn how to build a model professionally, not win a popularity contest. I have no interest in peer voting. Just my opinion.

Simon, that was very well put and I agree 100%
I was surprised when I saw the announcement about the voting too, I am going to refrain from voting on this group build I think, and also retract my entry, I don't think it's fair for the members to vote on each other's work.
We are here to support each other and not critique our builds, I saw Nigel's post on his Phantom build and I agree with him, i can't see it ending well if it goes to a member vote

[thumb] cheers Pete. I went with my gut feeling on this. I'm glad others are feeling the same way. And yes, all those thoughts of pulling out as well.

I'm not spitting my dummy out, it's just I don't feel comfortable voting on others builds, this hobby is fun to me and I enjoy sharing my builds with everyone, I'm not bothered about competition, I just want to build

I agree, 100%. Group builds should be fun. We don't want it turning out like a cake bake-off brawl at the local CWA. lol The KISS principle. Keep it simple, stupid.

And if Bob does decide to go back judging, I won't post my entry in the reveal section for judging, just to clear the decks of any prejudice. Next GB though, look out! lol

I agree 100%. Thank you for putting up the discussion Simon! I really enjoy the positive vibe on this forum. It doesn't feel right to judge the work of friends - sorry Bob, I think this is your job. You're the pro :-)

But whatever the outcome will be of this discussion, please don't retract your great builds guys - that would be a shame!

Hi there everyone.

I'd just like to say thank you, for all of you coming together and letting me know what you want, I want this website and forum to be what you all want it to be and feedback is the way to do this.

So I will be judging all the GB's [smile]

Now I have the very hard task of picking from all this fantastic work [eek][eek]

I'm so glad that you have decided to do the judging Bob, I know it's a tough job and nearly everyone who commented didn't feel comfortable with having to vote for each other, but you are the Guvnor and everyone respects you, your work and of course your decision.

Fabian hit the nail on the head in his post, everyone is friends in here and the non critical and supportive nature of this site is to me what makes it better than the other forums, everyone on here is here to improve whatever their level of ability, and there is no argumentative or elitist behaviour that I have witnessed from lurking on some of the other forums.

This was my first group build and I found the experience of sharing my build with everyone and receiving and giving, support, advice and sometimes humour a fantastic experience and it really helped me through some of the tougher parts of the build.

For me it's never been about the winning or losing but the camaraderie and the sharing of the hobby , I have made some good friends since I joined the forums and it really wouldn't have felt right to try and pick a winner out of the fantastic work that they have created

Thanks again for reconsidering your position on the judging

Pete
