I'm thinking of building a 1:48 scale Phantom. The choice seems to be Academy vs Hasagawa.

Has anyone got any experience of building one or both of these kits that can help me decide?

Features I like are as follows; good fit, clear instructions, option for open canopy display

Having taken part in the Phantom Group Build (check out all the builds in this form) I would go for the Academy. The fit is superb and there are plenty of aftermarket products. Just take care with the in takes, it had us all bamboozled.

Many thanks for the advice Nigel. I will delve into the Phantom GB forum to check out the air intakes issue.

I started the Phantom GB but had to drop out due to life. I will finish that model asap. it was the 1/48 academy Phantom F-4 and it is an excellent kit. checking the Phantom GB WIP threads is a great idea---lots of info there.

+1 for the Academy Phantom. Unfortunately, I joined Genessis to late to join the GB, but I've built the C version and just picked up the J version also. The one piece fuselage alone makes it the better kit but the detail and fit is superb. Hoping for all of the Phantom versions to come soon... Especially an FGR.2. Good luck.

Ron.

Isn't the superb Eduard kit based on the Academy kit if I remember rightly,
that seems to be the kit of choice for a Phantom to me [smile]
