Started detail painting. Little black sensors, nose and exhaust areas. Again used the Mr. Metal colors which I am able to brush on. Little scary because this paint is really thin and can easily sneak under the masking tape, whoa. But good practice and I'm happy with the result.

Decals ready to go... :-)

you are moving forward very well! the masking for the tail/exhaust section looks very much like what I just did. great work with the metal paints--they are thin thin. good luck with the decals. your finished build is going to look GREAT!

The metal areas look great ! You manage to achieve very nice results with a brush and that's no easy task, I take my hat off to you sir !
As Ted said amazing to think this is 1/72. You have got a lot of detail into this build.
Those markings look very nice too, it's going to be a nice looking Phantom when completed.
Keep it up

I applied a dark grey wash. First time I did that - it's really a scary thing to do... Looks terrible to just throw this on your model :-O. The surface detail is quite shallow but it worked out okay. For the belly I used some Tamyia "makeup" :-)

This is amazing. It's a 1/72 scale model. I'm lost for words.

Those decals, I've only got about 8 with my 1/72 kit.

Fantastic painting Fabian.

Thank you gentlemen. A have to admit the decals look better in pictures - I do now known what silvering is :-/
One question: what glue should I use to put the landing gear in place? Tamyia extra thin won't grip. Maybe the parts are painted? Superglue then?

many modelers put the last parts on with superglue [CA] to avoid problems with disrupting paint and weathering. You could also scrape the paint off the connection points  so Tamiya Extra Thin will "weld" the styrene together, then touch up the paint if needed. if you are careful enough, should not be a problem. Superglue is quick and easy, but it can be brittle and then parts may pop off in the future if you bump them. your call. one note--if you use superglue [CA], don't use a kicker to instantly harden/dry the CA glue. it will be even more brittle and kicker can sometimes cause problems on paint also.
