wow, awesome work.

side question: How do you get such clear photos?  What type of camera do you use? I've tried a couple lens and tons of light, but can never get this clear of images.

looking forward to seeing this one finished!

Sorry, no magic here for taking pictures, just a desk light and iPhone 5... The phone is very nice for getting on closer as I can easy choose the point of focus by tapping on the screen. The trick is really to keep the camera steady... that's about it.

Thanks mate! Never saw a corsair in real life so have to trust those (beautiful) online pics. Love working with an AB. It opens up so many possibilities!!! Glad you like it :-)

I don't know, stumbled over this picture by coincidence... It looks very much photoshopped, but I wouldn't mind to have one, lol

Most likely that is "Dark sea blue" used on late war Corsairs. It was also used in Korea.

modern example :

and off Korea

Neil,
I agree it looks black, and a few night fighting corsairs were. However, they were two toned and would have the radar dome on the wing. Most like this looks black because it is overcast/dull light source, and photoshop retouching (maybe HDR attempt).

Oh and Fabian,

My uncle flew Corsairs in Korea, asking my aunt if she has any pictures of him from that time with his bird, cross fingers [smile]

Found her.

That is a F4U-5 in the colors of Captain Thomas J. Hudner, Jr., USN (Ret.) From VF32. He earned the medal of honor flying this plane. It would be dark sea blue all around. Here is another picture of that corsair in bright sunlight.

You can read about  Captain Hudner at  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_J._Hudner,_Jr.

A diorama of him in that F4U crashed in the ice field could be really nice.
