Figure painting is go Ted. Lol

As far as I can tell, this is pretty much the only forum where people are not jealously guarding their secrets. Judging from the cooperative nature and fellowship of our members here... I think we may be doing this in a way that will set this forum aside as the most progressed group of professional modelers on the entire web.

Before you disagree, watch any how to video out there, then tell me if you understood everything you were shown. Now if you had to ask, " how did he/she do that?" Then you know why this forum is so unique. Because we don't leave a man behind. Lol

This is because of all of you. Bobby should be proud of his forums. No trolls, no spammers, and no in-fighting. We share and we are courteous with each other. We see new people and we tell them they belong.

I've been in a lot of forums Gents. This one is a rare gem indeed.

Now, let's do something awesome. [smile]

Great idea guys. Count me in...

What is the format going to be...are we going to have to photograph and describe each step?

I'm going to stick my neck out and say the starting date is from today and will run for 8 weeks so closing date will be 4th December
This will be a purely for fun and share of techniques/ learn new ones group build, so no winners or prizes, but I would like to think that everyone who participates will pick up some new tricks and get some satisfaction from helping out our fellow members.

No rules as such, you just need a figure any scale any genre, it doesn't matter if the figure is already started
All you need to do is document the stages as you progress with the figure, and be open to questions from other members
And if you are going to base the figure it would be helpful if you could show the techniques and materials that you use
The point of this exercise is for everyone to combine and share their knowledge of figure painting as it does seem to be an area of the hobby that many people steer clear of
And a figure added to a base with a model can add so much to a build

Do we need a deadline? I would have thought this could be a rolling idea to keep the figures coming. Maybe the intention will be to continue to roll with two month period figure workshops?

We could always do it for 1 month roll. We might even be able get Bobby to be a judge, all he would have to do is show a photo of the winning figure on the end of his monthly show.

Food for thought, just thinking out aloud.

That sounds like a good idea Nigel. I was very proud when Bobby showed my LotD figure. We should inquire if Bobby would have some time available.

the idea of rolling it around is good since figure painting is so diverse and adds a lot to builds/dioramas not to mention ALL the figure genres available. I just needed a finish date for this current GB to keep me on track. we could roll it in 4 or 8 week periods. I have boxes of 1/48 and 1/35 figures for aircraft and tanks respectively. the only way to master it is practice practice and practice.

I wouldn't worry too much Ted. I watched a video a few days ago where a fellow showed off his miniatures. You could literally see his progress as he showed off his oldest to newest figures. When he got to the last one i was blown away by the sheer mastery he had achieved.

I know you won't have any problems Ted. Well, maybe if you forget to use those goggles of yours lol. I need to get on track with you guys again. I've been painting the Grey Knight and I've gotten lost in it.

the enjoyment is most important. I think you have found a real "sweet" spot to work with the figures and such. nice compliment to your other builds. nice diversity.

That is a great idea. Make it monthly and people can dip in and out as they have the time. Great to have some figure work on the forum because when time is limited it can certainly keep the interest going....oh yeah ....and I have loads of figures that need painting. Maybe we could rival the GW golden daemon award with different categories......!!

I really want to start mine, but have had a bit of mojo loss these past couple of days, I have found myself purposely finding other things to do rather than build.
Perhaps my flame of modelling enthusiasm has finally gone out.

Perhaps you've over done it a bit lately Pete. You really went the extra mile on the Phantom build. No one is expecting you to burn yourself out entirely.

Once a month... That seems okay. And yes, participants are more than welcome to come and go as they please. Even I can't do this every day lol.

I've got to get a more reliable way of posting again. My wife likes using her phone too. Lol

Pete maybe a brunette cowgirl is just what you need to get your enthusiasm up again [wink].

Making this a monthly or even bi-monthly thing sounds like a great idea. After a couple of months there should be a great reference of different figures and techniques on this forum to dig into for all kinds of great ideas for people just starting on figures.
