Hi guys, I have a question about pledge aka future. What I have and have been using is crystal clear, I've noticed what everyone else uses is murky and opaque. Do I have the right stuff? It's all I can find here in the states. It doesn't seen to work very well, even after 3 coats.

It comes in several forms currently some clear some milky (seemingly depending which part of the world you get it in).
But if it does the job then its probably the right stuff

I am afraid to say that my personal "research" on "Future", AKA Pledge, AKA other names, revealed to me that Johnson and Johnson no longer makes an acrylic floor product that will be effective for our modeling purposes. I contacted the company corporate office and spoke with a cust rep. a few weeks ago. I very carefully explained what I used their product for and I was told they no longer make a dedicated acrylic product. All of their products are now multi-surface [including wood] and diluted. In the past, "Future" was pure acrylic and it was milky colored. It was concentrated and you had to add water to your bucket. Over the past few years that has switched to a multisurface product that "Cleans and protects" Tile, linoleum, and wood. It is clear. Long ago European countries banned certain ingredients in floor products and the formulas changed. If you google Future or Pledge now, you will see page after page of complaints by customers about how the product leaves a haze on surfaces. Johnson and Johnson changed the formula to conform to Government environmental standards. IF you find some old bottles of Pledge in the USA that are NOT labeled for use on wood floors, buy them. One other point.Even if you find Pledge [The correct product bottle has a picture of a blue boot on the label], it is now pre-diluted. If you dilute it again thinking it is a concentrate, you will get a very thin, substandard coating that will not hold up under decal chemicals. This is exactly what companies who can tomato sauce do. It is tomato paste that has the water already added. You are paying for water and they are profiting. Might as well move along to a dedicated "clear" modeling product of your choice....IMHO.
I would be glad to be wrong?

Hi Guys, it is actually SC Johnston who make the Pledge/Future/Klear. While it has went through many changes, there are a variety of products so do further research to ensure you buy the correct one. In the UK, the "Klear" formula was changed a number of years ago to a milky, fragrant solution which, despite opinions, was definitely NOT as good as it's predecessor. However, I have read that it has recently changed again to a clear formula similar to the original. I can see it only available in Sainsburys butthere isn't a store near me to purchase and try. Don't dismiss Pledge just yet!

Glad you pointed out my designation of the wrong manufacturer--DOH!

I just bought one of the latest "pledge" products here in the US. Its acrylic and is a finish, not a cleaner. I am carefully using it to see how it does. I posted about the product somewhere else here on Genessis but can't remember where?

as you stated: "Don't dismiss Pledge just yet!"
