I agree with Jason. There is a reason we want Bobby to do the judging. This is his site and its his opinion we trust. We wouldn't be here if it were anyone else running the show.

Bobby offered to let us do a peer judging for one of the GB's and we all refused. I guess a lot of us have already been down that road. lol

I belonged to an international photography Image posting and critique site for over 10 years. Peer reviews can be helpful but they can also tear a forum apart. Each review generated "points" for an image, both [+] and [-]. after a period of time your points were totaled and the image got an overall rating--the rating allowed you to post more pictures. the reviewers also received "reviewing points" and you used them as credit to post YOUR images for review and scoring by others. Can you imagine the in-fighting when you had reviewers with 20 years photography experience and some guy who started photography last month? LOL. then came all the "cross voting and soliciting votes" arguments. rules violations, "conspiracy theories real and imagined", etc., etc., etc. The fighting never stopped. I say better to put it ALL on Bobby. That way we have one person to blame! LOL. Seriously, I trust Bobby explicitly.

Haha Jason,
yes, you did,
you absolutely crapped on 3 of my ideas [biggrin]

But I really do mind at all, I like straight talking, honest and direct input, responses and opinions...
so absolutely no worries bud, I appreciate your candor [smile]

You raise some good points to be fair but also you did kind of paint the worst case scenarios [smile]

Please know that I suggest these with good intent and not malign anyone or make anyone feel
bad or bullied etc. I don't see that kind of behaviour here at all and if these ideas went ahead
I am sure it would be handled with good etiquette. Plus, they would only happen with everyones
approval.

You're right though, no one should be forced into it and volunteers only etc. and I've no problem
ditching the idea of the peoples choice vote. I just thought it might be a nice way to know what
everyone else thinks, also it's kind of an all or nothing deal, either everyone is up for it or they
aint, and clearly they aint  [smile]

As for the constructive critique idea, please note that this is a far cry from ripping the mick out of
someone and calling them crap, this would be a friendly, constructive and helpful, not snarky critique.
Some have expressed some enthusiasm for this idea because not only do we learn from our own
mistakes we can also learn from others too. It might also have the side benefit of help the sensitive
to over come their over sensitivities too, like you say volunteers only, it might not be for everyone.

Either way, I aint emotionally attached to these ideas and I'm ok to forget them, especially if it
alienates people etc.

As for the poster !!
How dare you !! [biggrin]

I like it though, because it is a bit different, personal to the event, a visual reminder of everyone
who took part and if you frame it would last a good long while, so that one was just a whine [wink]
But I'll let it slide seeing as you're all fueled up on cough syrup and that you had built up so much
momentum on the first two issues you couldn't over come the inertia for the third one [smile] [biggrin]

Seriously though, I just want to reiterate that I am glad you spoke up and said what you really
think Jason, straight up and honest, as it should be [thumb]

some good points, well made
thank you for your honesty and candor chaps,
consider the idea ditched [smile]

I still like the poster though [wink]

...... and Bobbies constructive critique corner
.......... for volunteers only... naturally [biggrin]
Btw. to clarify with the constructive critique idea, I didn't mean everyone and anyones opinion
I did mean Bobbies constructive critique, anyhow [smile]

Always worth chucking the ideas out there to see what sticks...
.... and what slides off like a sticker on public loo seat...

Cheers Paul! I did have a pretty good head of steam built up [smile], shame to waste all that energy [biggrin] I'm glad you took it with the honesty and lack of hostility intended.

Like you, I'm not married to any of my opinions either, whatever the big man decides is ok with me too. His sandbox/his rules and he's always made the right choices.

Maybe we should do a member run gb (no prizes) with the intent of working on giving/receiving feedback? The 'no butt-hurt" GB?? I do agree that sometimes things can be a bit too much of a hug fest (everywhere, not just here), the main reason I come to the forums is to learn from others...hard to do in a sea of constant "[thumb]"

Good, I'm soglad you're not pissed off for me not being pissed off, group hug ? [biggrin]

hahaaha I am so sorry to laugh at my own joke [biggrin]

anyhow, to clarify the constructive feedback idea this wasn't a group thing but
for Bobby to choose the one that needs the most help and encouragement not
to point out whose is the crappest (mine [smile] ) Also it my suggestion was for him
to do the constructive feedback, as Ted says, he's the pro and we all trust his
opinion on these things etc. etc.

The group thing was just for everyone to pick their three faves and see who
came out tops but it seems like an old idea that might have some morale issues.
Clearly I hadn't thought it through entirely [smile]

I do like the idea of a "No Butt Hurt GB" or perhaps "No Punches Pulled GB" [biggrin]
I'm not a fan of this overly PCness that has become too prevalent these days,
it gives way to a lot of solipsistic narcissism as we're seeing in some universities
with their bloody safe spaces and their identity politics and all that non issue guff.

But it is also a trust thing too hey, that everyone is there to support each as well as
to develop and strengthen ones own sense of humour about oneself too, to lighten up
and not take ones self too seriously, and besides, anyone who's good knows what it took
to get there and are less inclined to make malicious assertions, this tends to be the tactic
those whose opinion of themselves is unjustified and thus have a chip and a point to prove.
Somehow we don't really get that here (or scalemates for that matter)

In fact, if I'm honest, your first response to my suggestions are the closest thing to a
snarky come back here on Genessis Models, hows that for irony ! haha [biggrin]
Laugh it up fuzzball [wink]

Sometimes we really do need a little shock honesty but delivered with good intent
and with the support that follows etc. anyhow your model was nearly as rubbish as mine !!  [biggrin]

Just kidding, I think it looks super sweet [thumb][thumb][thumb][thumb] group hug ? [biggrin]

I'm good with the hug idea, but you may want to wait until the contagion risk is gone LOL else we will both end up sick and placed in the sanatarium together [rofl] Whatever strain this is, it wasn't covered by this year's vaccine [mad]

...but if we did end up in isolation I wonder if we could bring our tools and kits??? It's the only way I'd get some uninterrupted build time!

Lol, well, get well soon Jason and keep your diseases to yourself [smile]

I still like the poster idea btw. [wink]

I do like the idea of your "No Butt Hurt" mini GB though, some thing to ponder...
But then I also like the idea of "Margarine Tub Moon Lander" GB too.... [biggrin]

At and end of an exercise or mission etc in the army we use to do de-briefs. 3 bad points and ending on 3 good points. I like getting critic as it helps improve and on the side of no political correctness with in reason. But if someone gives feed back they must not say its crap and leave it at that(you'll soon figure out who's who). They must give a point why then a suggestion how to improve. The person can then go for the next model ok. I'm going to work on these 3 next points for my next build. I like to work on 3 points i need to improve on for each model. Breaking criticism down into 3 points will not over whelm someone and will give them confidence. Just my 2 cents.

We do have a members run GB. Its in the figure painting section. In fact, I need to get the voting open for the 2015 season. You're more than welcome to participate as I always have plenty of room lol. You can enter any models you want, as long as there are figures included to judge them with.

There's more going on here at Genessis then maybe you guys realize lol.

Jason

I think those are fair and valid remarks, which have to be taken seriously.

At the moment we are just throwing ideas in the air, it only takes one member to disagree and that idea would be scrapped.
Again, not all of us are aware that ideas like this have been done elsewhere.
I do recall Bobby trying to get the members to judge the Group Build once and we were all against it for the same reasons.

Therefore I thank you for your comments. If it is not wanted it will not appear within the forum.

Hope you get well soon

Edit...didn't read page 2 before I sent this...oops !
