I realized I was highjacking Nigel's GW thread so I thought I should stop and start my own. Now that I seem to have the ambition to get some forward progress on this little guy again.
So he has been bumping around in various boxes lately with lots of other unfinished GW figures I have and he needs to get finished so he can stand next to my Lemann Russ command Tank.
Here is the figure as he is now. A little sloppy, but it will all clean up before I'm done.
This is the completed "blocking" or " panel fill" stage as I call it. After a clear cote I will next start on a wash of dark purple to fill in the shallow shadow areas before moving onto highlighting and details.
Half my battle with getting started is over and that's where I typically stall with these GW figures. I have a Great Knight Terminator waiting in the wings also.
I know this upsets the usual GW fanboys, but I have always painted my figures with enamels. This time, as with the tank, I will be using my enamels for the base cotes because I get better coverage the first time.
If I had more than one color of Citadel paint then I would probably skip the enamels. But I have what I have.
So the model is currently blocked with Testors flat black and flat red. The only trick was keeping the paints from getting thick as I worked.
More to follow.

Okay the wash is on and I have done a little painting with a paler red in some areas to make the highlighting with my acylics easier.
Stay tuned.

Last round of highlights before I start the details.
Thanks Nigel. I have a motley assortment of figures. Anything that catches my fancy. I have not been interested in building an army of GW marines in over two decades lol.

Some details are now finished and the rest are blocked and ready for the next step.
But first, another clear to seal it up.

Thanks Ted, but he isn't done yet lol.
I have a little more to do with the plasma pistol and the banner and the ground work.
The close ups make it look terrible to me.

It looks really nice Mike. I love the way you have done the "eye" lenses and the shading.
I quite fancy having a go at a GW figure sometime
I know what you mean about close up photography too, but the marine looks fine on my screen Mike

Thanks Pete. I Had to look up some tutorials on you tube and realized quickly that all I had to do was shade them upside down. Of course it was far simpler than I thought.
I walked past my desk last night and caught the figure with my shirt, dropping it to the floor which broke the banner pole. I have glued it back on, but if it proves to be unsolid I will drill and wire the dang thing.
I have several ideas for the banner itself. Ranging from simple to complex. I will have to experiment with my colored pencils first to see if i can get the effect I'm looking for.
I'll post some pictures in a bit.

I'm loving the Alien vegetation Mike ! It really looks the part next to the marine, can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve for the banner, the detail paint on the barrel of the plasma cannon looks awesome !
I've found a sprue in my spares box with a few marines on it (I think they were my sons) so I will put them in a safe place for a build down the line
If you don't mind I will take a couple of pics of the sprues and you might be able to tell me what they are

Mike, are you finding the model too light and too easy to knock over?
This happens a lot when you place the model on and incline. To resolve that I cut the little raised bump on the underneath of the base, then I glue a 5 cent coin (or penny) in the base.
I know that each of my figures are worth at least 5 cents

Lol no. Most of my figures are metal. I'm not sure where the plastic ones are at this time.
Looks like you have a terminator and a few tactical marines. Besides the Ork that is.
