Yea the sun trick really does work I would try that first. Hasegawa is usually good about replacing stuff but you will have to call up Hobbico that's hasegawa's distributer for their kits and parts. the problem it will come from Japan and depending on where you live it may take up to 2 months to get to you but you will get them I have done it I just cant stand waiting that long before.

If it was me and if the sun trick does not work to your liking then I would just buy some after market tomcat markings their are plenty of color cat marking out their.

The real downside of the kit from a glance is the lack of ordinance and the yellowish hue of the decal sheet. probably will order a backup decal sheet.

Great Kit and Great Markings!

I have had success in bleaching decals sheets by putting them in zip lock bags and taping them to a window that gets good sunlight. By the look of your sheet, it shouldnt take long. Give it a go!

Dave

How long? A Day? A Week?
The fightertown decal sheet is in backorder status over at lucky model, So I will give it a go.

Well as long as there is sun, a few days? if ya do it now, it should surely be ready by the time you need them.... Just check every day and when they are cleared up to your liking, Pull them down..

Good Luck!

UV light fading, that is a neat trick Dave, I quite like that [smile]
is there any yellowing of the carrier film or does that only occur with age ?
cheers [smile]

Pretty sure its just an age thing... But some decals yellow worse than others...  Quality is a big factor that I have seen...

Hope it works out with the decals. What's a carrier GB without an F-14 indeed. Good luck!

Wim.

The sun trick really works, I have used it myself on yellowed decals in the past (just took a few days)

But I have had experience with Hasegawa decals too and in some kits the White areas of the decals are printed in off white (if you google it you will see what I mean) I've got a 1/32 Hasegawa F-16 in my stash and the decals are the same (it was new when I bought it) I'm not sure if the sun trick will work on them, but it won't harm them if you want to try it

One thought on this, with yellowed old decals will the yellowing also fade in sunlight thus bleaching it too and reducing the yellow ?

Well.... Yes and No.... LOL

As long as you keep an eye on them and pull them down after the bleaching effect you want is done, then no worries. But..... If you forget like I did ( On a set of Dragon ME262 decals) and left them up for a couple months.... It did start to bleach the whole sheet! Reds, Blacks etc.  LOL. Could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the look ur after....

Dave

some updates...
i have been waiting for several days for some progress with the decals bleaching.
here is the status day by day:

after 24 hours:
[20150810_160615_zpsyjb1lzby]

after 48 hours:
[20150811_155607_zpsfvnsrrqn]

after 72 hours:
[20150812_155003_zpsimyvbrvr]

for now it seems that something is starting to change but i think i will give it a few more days.
what do you say? can you see the difference?

and on a different subject, after considering purchasing the eduard brasin kit for the Phoenix and amraam missile i have decided to go on the hobbyboss f-14b... it got a lot of ordnance which can be used for two a/c and i really like tomcats so... [crazy]

and thank you guys for the help.
