Evening all,

Again, a long time between drinks, but as usual work is getting in the way. Finally got the upper half of the Hornet painted. Ended up doing some post shading to make it come to life a bit:

Simply used FS36375 (lower surface colour) to do the post shading on the upper side and FS36320 (upper surface) to post shade the lower surface, pylons and jugs. Cheating a bit but I like the result.

The reason I have always been a bit scared of doing post shading has been taking it too far. After the phtos above were taken I did just that and tried to post shade the panel lines. Complete failure. Luckily I was using acrylics over lacquer so 90% rescued it with acrylic thinners and a cloth. No photos as I'm pretty pissed with myself for not stopping when I was happy with it.[bawl]
Full day tomorrow on it and hoping to get to decaling tomorrow night before, again, I'm away from the bench for another week with work. Hopefully update post tmw afternoon before heading off to the airport.

Thanks for looking! [wave]

Looking Awesome Sean!! Love the paint work you have going on. I remember the first time I tried post shading was really scary but turned out ok. I used Tamyia's Smoke thinned down, seems more forgiving then a thinned down black. Just got to remember Thin paint/low AB pressure.

Nice work Sean. And yeah, post-shading can be a bit of a sweat. Remember you can always touch up with original colour too if it looks too strong, that recovers it pretty quickly.
But nice work mate. And safe travelling. [smile]

Sean,
When you see this note I was just curious. When you put the rubber black down, did you seal it with anything before the tape? If so, what did you use?
thanks.

G'day Ted,
Short answer is no, I didn't seal the black rubber. The 0.4mm Micron masking tape I use has very little tack, just enough to stay put for one use. No chance that tape will lift any paint.

I've now removed the tape with the results below:

I'll now give this a coat of Future and then flat coast before removing the Eduard mask.

Cheers!

Sean

Evening all,

Decals applied. Just trying to settle down a few of them. Must say though the Super Scale decals are beautiful. Very thin and the colours are perfect. Now just another gloss coat and will get started on the panel line wash.

Cheers!

Sean
