Nice to formally meet you William!  My grandfather's name was William, and he fought in the trenches in the Great War.  He was wounded in the leg by a German machine gun, and was taken to a field hospital where they made a metal plate to attach to the bone, since it was shattered by the bullet.  Didn't slow him down, and after the war he even played football for his factory's team.  Many years later, in his 80's, he suffered some pain in the leg, and they X-rayed it and found an abscess under the plate.  They operated to remove the plate and found it to be an amazing piece of metalworking skill, much more than would be expected from what was basically a cut-and-shut, patch'em up and send 'em back army hospital.  So it was donated to the Imperial War Museum in London.  To this day it is a family boast that part of granddad Bill is in the War museum, London!
