Fabian, you don't need to put all the stencils on the Phantom. Not all the stencils were actually used, or on the aircraft when they were in service. So no need to panic my friend.

I would say you've got over 150 service stencils, which were on the aircraft when it left the factory...but veteran service men knew where to stand and what not to touch.

I've been there.....

...and these are dry transfers. Forget about reading them...some I couldn't even see !

Manga decals....try http://www.archertransfers.com

Yeah, further to what Nigel said, there is also the scale affect. You might get every stencil in the world, but on a real aircraft from 10 feet you can't see many. a ton of stencils at 1/48 can start to make it look over done and unrealistic.

As you can see below, even from close on a large image even the largest stencils are not much more than smudges.

in other words, don't stress them and only add what you think is realistic [smile]

That's what I love about these GB'S. ..we help each other along the way, not in just the building, but with encouragement and humour....and sharing a bottle of lager now and then.

It could well be...just rebranded.

I love how you've managed to get a whole carrier in a GB about Aircraft Fabian. Sheer genius! lol
And those peanuts look delish Seth!

Haha, just got inspired by the first little kit and suddenly I was building a ship :-). I like the blue camo of the Flanker, would like to try this on a more serious kit. Maybe I throw in the "crazy Ivan" proposal again for the next GB vote...

The Phantom out of the way I started on the carrier base. Crossy showed me this great link "how to creat water": http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=157503&p=637868#p637868
Really amazing work, so realistic!
This is what I'm trying to do... first I cut the base from blue styrofoam and cut the shape of the carrier out so it sits in the water.

Next I was holding the foam upside and did some passes with a lighter to waves. The foam shrinks easily on heat. Better do this outside ;-)

Then I glued tissue paper on top with water thinned whiteglue to create a wrinkle effect.

Now I have to let it dry to start painting...

Starting to look like water...

Painted the hole thing with a very dark mix of blue and black, followed by a much lighter mixture on some parts to imitate stirred up water and bubbles. I think a few more layers of gloss and I will try to do water spray with cotton.
