Blimey! It's arrived already, do you ever get the feeling that you have bitten off more than you can chew?

I will post pics of box and bits tomorrow to formalise my entry but having gone through all the goodies and the instructions, it will be a push to get it completed by the deadline. Unless of course I want it to look a complete dogs breakfast!

So, a couple of questions that you learned folks may be able to help me with:-

The resin seats are damaged, couple of bits broken off and one other resin part is snapped in half. There is no mention in the instructions of what to do in a case like this, does anyone have any experience they can share?

Photo etch, it is really small! Looks really good though. I only have experience of soldering PE, not appropriate here so I am not sure what type of adhesive to use.

Going to build the tanks, missiles and bombs tomorrow so will also post some pics of them.

Welcome to the group build Chris
Bummer about the broken resin. If the parts fit together ok , just super glue them back together, for the etch I use PVA glue for the tiny parts and loctite gel to glue etch together
It doesn't dry instantly so it gives you a little bit of time to line things up, I squeeze a blob onto an old bit of plastic and apply with a cocktail stick

Thanks for the advice Pete. Is the loctite gel a thick ca?
I can glue broken bit but tips of seat edges are missing.

Yes loctite gel is a thick slow setting CA
post some pics of the damage and we can see if there is a solution to fix it

You can try to repair it if possible like pete said, or you can submit a claim with eduard. Just go to eduard.com and click on that green support tab on the right. Then fill in the info with what's broken and then wait for a response. At least that's what it says to do on their website. Good luck.

That idea works Kenny. Complain to Eduard and they will send you a replacement, you don't need to return the old one.

Chris, don't forget about photos of the kit you are making. Made that mistake myself. [thumb]

Thanks for the advice, I will try and take some pics of the damage.  I think the broken piece can be fixed ok but I don't have the bits that appear to be missing from the ejector seats.  I will try the Eduard web site and let you know how I get on.

Hoping to start building some bombs, tanks and missiles today but forgot I have to build a servo control board for a friend who is coming over later.  Oh well, airbrush and solvent weld away, soldering iron and pic programmer out!

I have taken a couple of pics of the broken bits.  Maybe I am being pedantic but the front right hand side of both seats is missing, you can see the mark where the resin has snapped off.

A bit of CA should fix this bit:-


Just noticed a bit missing from the left hand of this seat also.  I am assuming that both seats are the same!




The box with the resin parts in is also damaged on one corner which is a little odd given that it is inside the main box.  I can only surmise that the damage had happened before it was packed in the factory.

Anyway, servo board done so on to some armaments.

Yeah that sucks. Are both seats like that or just the one? Also with the little piece that broke off the headrest. That tucks in behind the seat back so you could probably get away with having it off. Broke that piece off of mine for one of the seats because I wasn't careful enough putting it in place. If you are putting the seatbelts on, or having a pilot in the seat, you wont be able to see that that little part is missing at all. The parts that are broken off the edges of the seat will be noticeable, so contact eduard and get them to replace them.

That is a pain ! If the broken off parts are missing it's not just a case of sticking them back on, if you are able to get replacements through the retailer I would do that. If not maybe sticking the crew in there would hide the damage.
Resin is a nightmare for breaking as it's so brittle, did it have some foam or sponge packing in the box ? I have had Aires resin cockpit sets arrive in bits before a shame reall as a bit more care in the packaging could stop the problem.

Both seats affected, very frustrating.  The packaging was pretty good, the items were in separate bags and packed with foam.  What is odd though is that the exterior of the box is damaged which can only of happened when the kit was packed in the factory.  I suspect that this is the cause of the damage as it has had quite a knock and it if fairly substantial cardboard. 

I have contacted Eduard and received an automated reply so hoping to get a response in a day or two.

I've had to contact Eduard a couple of times and both times was a pleasant experience. They have a really great customer service. You should get a response soon Chris.

hope Eduard props you up with replacements. if you keep the broken seats for the spares box I can recommend this. the seat piece will go back on with CA glue as you stated. the chipped areas on the other part of the seats-and no tiny piece to put back on? the local model shop guy has shown me several kits that had little parts broken off and missing. he took tape and placed it around the chipped area very carefully. then he started to layer in CA glue a bit at a time till he built up the broken off edge [he used a reference photo to see how far to go]. then he removed the tape and carefully sanded the CA glue down into the final shape.I have had a seat arrive with some of the tiny handle bits broken off--its REALLY frustrating! looks like that happened when they took the part out of the mold and it chipped off--maybe it was not cured well?---or they dropped it, but......went ahead and packaged it w/o proper inspection. best luck!

Got a reply from Eduard, they have asked for my postal address and will ship replacements out. They also asked for photos so they can advise the packing team.
Excellent service so far, can't fault it!

Started on the ordinance, tanks and pylons last night. Managed to avoid the trap of getting tank halves back to front. Going to build it all as I can't decide on the Config and need the airbrush practice. If I make a mess of anything then I can select a Config that omits the dodgy bits.

I'll post some photos later.
