I like the comradery Thatmas [wink] [smile]

Hey Proto, no worries, rooting around for ref photos that might not exist for someone else's model is much less appealing than being at a roof top bar with friends after work [smile] [biggrin]

Still loads of time yet, still got to do all the sub assemblies [smile]

Btw it seems some PF's had drogue chutes too, though my version doesn't, something to scratch build onto it I guess [smile]
Good link, even if I haven't found what I am looking for, I really do like that scheme though [smile]

That scheme says Mig 21P but with the 4 wing mounts I'm thinking it might be the MF as that also fought in the Nam war too, I think ... anyhow, as and when you can mate, cheers [smile]

I like the look of this decal set [smile]

https://www.scalemates.com/kits/484075-l-decals-studio-lds-72006-migs-over-vietnam-part-1

Seems one can do all three of these from the one set [smile]
also I note the probe is in the same place as the PF,
remaining external differences are the canopy and drogue chute.
If I can convert the spare canopy successfully then I'll probably do the drogue chute [biggrin]

Red 6122 looks good, although that Red 5141 on the middle appeals to me now...

I'm getting this sneaking feeling I may end up building more than one Mig21 [smile]

Overtrees ! Overtrees, where are you !! [biggrin]

I do like all of the above especially red 6122 but I'm still favouring Red 51 of them all though and that decal set would be perfect for red 51 [biggrin]

Hello Choppa Nutta.

Started gathering the PF photos and schemes. By the way, the Eduard kit has many options inside. None of these camos interest you?

About the conversion you are thinking (PF to PFM), why spending so much time? There are many camos for PF that you will like... [smile]

If you like PFM camos too buy a PFM kit too. Maybe a weekend edition.

yeah the thought had occurred to get the cheaper edition or the overtrees but the Profipack cost me less than a Weekend edition ie, £20 [smile]
but if I can get some overtrees cheap then great, or a PFM bargain comes up [smile]

so far though the only camo scheme I have seen for the PF is silver, no camo schemes

I'm looking forward to seeing what you have discovered [smile]

Just wait a little to organize. But i'm afraid the best are only illustrations and not real photos.
You want real photos?  Eduart's camo options are on your kit's leaflets? http://www.eduard.com/store/Aircraft-and-helicopters/1-48/MiG-21PF-1-48.html (click the Instruction Sheet)

photos are nice but illustration guides are fine too [smile]

yep, been through the Eduard schemes and all the Nam VPAF schemes for the PF are aluminium finish, no camo schemes that I have seen thus far ...

Whatever scheme I do it is going to be VPAF markings [smile]

On Edurart's kit it has 2 camo options with no metal finish(Mig-21PF). An east German, that i have photo too. And a Russian.

It was nice opportunity to buy a profipack in that price [smile]

yeah but they are East German and Russian, I want to do a Vietnam scheme [smile]

Yeah I couldn't say no at under £20 [biggrin]

So would you say Red 51 is actually an MF or MFN version ?

Here is the Mig-21PF Gathering. I did some collage to avoid many photos.

I think at the end of page you will be interested most.

Now i realized you want Vpaf only.. Anyway i may change your mind.

If still looking for VPAF Mig-21PF you need to track down these serials (Nose bort numbers) starting with 4.

"Now i realized you want Vpaf only.. Anyway i may change your mind."

Haha, not from doing a VPAF you won't [wink]
but you may yet persuade me to get an MF or PFM kit and/or do the PF in silver though [biggrin]

Great links
great photos
gratefully appreciated ! [smile]

Awesome to have appendix A on hand !!

I'm getting the feeling that Red 51 is a generic scheme indication for some Mig21MF's (Of which the P must be a variant)
2 hard points and the slightly larger spine hump as the other differences etc.
I reckon the 51 is mere the first two digits of the usual four, not seen any VPAF Migs with just two digits before.....

I reckon this might be the proper kit to do Red 51?? with, cost £20...

https://www.scalemates.com/products/product.php?id=260571&p=inthebox

or this profi pack

https://www.scalemates.com/kits/100998-eduard-8231-mig-21mf

which happens to be on sale for £21 ... [biggrin]

http://www.creativemodels.co.uk/eduard_profipack_148_mig21mf-p-23931.html

............oh god !! do I need another kit !! lol [biggrin]

plus this gets me above the £30 free postage limit [smile]

http://www.creativemodels.co.uk/ak_interactive_soviet_aircraft_colors_19501970-p-44351.html

of course the plus side of buying that Profi kit is the spare optional canopies you get with it which makes converting the PF to PFM a whole heap easier ! [biggrin]

Good morning Vietnam! [tongue]

Don't know details for the red 51 illustration you posted above. But i reckon that is a Mig-21R.

Mig-21R has the spine of Mig-21MF you linked above but with some extra details, like the photography pod (Type-R or Type-D pod), the wing tips pods (housing  antennas).

So for the RED-51 you will need a Mig-21R boxing and not an MF [biggrin]
