Enjoy your build, I'll try to find you a theme song. Bowie's Major Tom springs to mind but sure I'll find something special...........just for you

Cheers Ian, it's an old kit alright !! Steven, haha hadn't thought of that one either !! now that I'm in the mental prep phase and doing research I'm noticing a number of inaccuracies that are beginning to bug me.... not as nice as the Academy kit as seen in Christian Bruer's photo at the bottom, (which has some additional scratch building on it) no surprise though, it was released in 1970 so it was a rush job putting it together, no doubt Airfix wisely waited for a successful mission before going to the faff of tooling up The window is the one that bugs me most, need to round the corners and change the lines to align parallel with the surrounding frame, then add a sheet on the flat face above to create an overhanging lip to get the "eyebrow" look .. Next is the big triangular flap on the right all molded in as one with the rest of the body... this is supposed to be a structural rod ... no doubt Airfix had limited reference The door is way to recessed with CHUNKY features ... little red arrow shows depth in the door way. need to be flatish and flush etc. This machine aint symmetrical and there's a lump missing on it's lower cheek.. There's (unsurprisingly) a number of other features missing from this "rare" classic vintage kit, such as the docking window, a few more lumps & bumps, oh and some panel lines haha I'm surprised just how much of it is covered in foil and mat black sheet etc. reference shows a distinctly tatty side to the construction ... I find myself contemplating how to emulate the buckling the sheet metal went through by time it landed on the moon because it went through some quite extreme heat cycles ... I choose to build this kit of a model that went to the moon before the end of the decade, and I choose this kit not because it was hard, but because it was easy !! well that's a well known speech I've rather mangled ... lol
