I'm not sure about doing the camo freehand. I will probably paint the grey first then tape off and apply the green. Who knows though, maybe I'll be brave and freehand it.

So I sat down at the bench this past weekend trying to decide if I should freehand the camo or tape it.  Luckily for me I started the painting with the bottom of the plane then I let it sit overnight before I masked off the edge.  And it turns out I was feeling brave the next day and decided to freehand it.

Here it is fresh after painting.....

And here are a few shots with the masking for the identification stripes removed....

You may have noticed that while removing the masking tape (Tamiya thin white tape) it peeled the paint in 2 spots, on the top leading edge of the main right wing and the bottom leading edge of the right horizontal rear stabilizer.  So I masked of the areas, with tamiya yellow tape this time, lightly sanded the area so there was no bumps and repainted.

Here is the front wing after the repair.....

And here is one final shot of the plane with paint complete.....

I also managed to get the under wing fuel tanks painted and I added some fuel lines to make them look a little better.

Next up is a gloss coat and then on to decals.

Thanks for looking,

Time for another update,

A couple of nights ago I was able to get a gloss coat on the plane and then I let it sit for a day before starting on the decals last night.  Most of the decals are on with just a few left to be done.  I'm still debating if I should use the decals for the yellow on the leading edge of the wings or paint them.  Also, after reading a bit about Tamiya mark fit, I decided to give it a go.  If you're not familiar with it there is mark fit and mark fit strong and they are decal setting solutions similar to micro set and sol.  On some of the decals it worked well but on others it didn't do much and for those I went back to my trusty old micro set and sol.  Anyways, here are some pics of my progress.....

Gloss coat on......

Tamiya mark fit.......

and finally, decals on.....
[DSC_0255_1491962301979_zpsibk9euf2]

Another night or two of applying decals and micro sol for them to settle down nicely then I'll be on to another gloss coat and weathering.

Thanks,

Hi Ted,  I had high hopes for it as it is less expensive then micro set and sol and you get more in the bottle.  It did work well on the thinner decals but seemed ineffective on the thicker ones.  I will keep trying it on future models to see how it compares but for now I'm sticking with old faithful.

After a nice long weekend I had hoped to get more work done on this kit but oh well, she;s coming along nicely and shouldn't be to long before it's done.

I finished up with the decals and put one last coat of micro SOL on to set the decals in, left it to dry and when I went back the next day I found this..... [DSC_0254_1492256412281_zpszceokvkd]

Seems as though the SOL pooled up and ate thru the clear coat and paint.  It felt smooth so I patched it up with some paint thinking it would disappear, but it didn't.  Doesn't look too bad though, I'll just have to weather it 'creatively'.  After that I put another clear coat over the entire model and then,

Wash on................
[DSC_0258_1492512704244_zpssbcljgw4]

and wash off.........
[DSC_0259_1492512704139_zpsbccq9ffy]

with the wash all done I painted all the nav lights and gave it a flat coat,

[DSC_0271_zps9n2grpjr]
[DSC_0272_zpse0f1blyj]

next I'll add the landing gear, spinner and prop, drop tanks and all the little bits and then some final weathering.

Until then,

Thanks,

This should be the last post on this thread before I add it to the final reveal section.  All the little bits were added last night and the only thing left to do is the final weathering.  I'm very happy with this build and I hope you guys like it also.

Here are a few teaser pics before the final reveal.......
