At the end of last week the company I have been temping with since February told me that they would have to let me go at the end of this week, and since I had already booked tomorrow off as holiday, then today was my last day with them. Since, in a few months, I will receive my inheritance from my late father, I decided 'That's it, 46 years is enough for anyone, I'll retire, and be a gentleman of leisure.' So, the lads in the team I have been working with, unbeknownst to me, had a whip round, and this afternoon presented me with the retirement gifts below. I have no idea how they knew I was into modelling. It's not like I talk about it constantly or anything! The book in particular is really nice. Thumbing through it on my last ever tea break was like a stroll down memory lane, as I kept saying, 'I remember that one, I built that one,' and so on. And to top off a great day, when I got home I had a letter from the tax man. It seems I paid too much tax last year, so I have a tax rebate of £2,730.00!! Retirement, a tax refund and a weekend at Telford. Tell me, does it get any better than this?!

I wish you all the best Kit. I was in the same position at the beginning of last year. I got notification the week before Xmas that as a contractor I was out the middle of January, but we would like you back in the middle of the year when we start taking people on again. Despite being past retirement age and having differed taking my pensions, I just didn't know when I was going to pack it in. So, the decision had now been made for me. Similar to you, I had worked for 47yrs. I think we have done our bit, don't you? Yep, the tax rebate is a nice little bonus. I am surprised however that my kit building rate has fallen off since retiring. I can't really see why though. Maybe it was that when I was working, I needed something to help me relax more and get my mind off the day to day nonsense.

congratulations. I worked 32 years before becoming disabled. You have certainly hit the clock for long enough. I wish you good health and great fun! A refund from the tax man? you sure about that? LOL. grand sign of a guardian angel? Telford, tax return, retirement, more good things to come!
