It would be cool to start a mini group build for figures, it would be a great way for me to pick up some hints and tips too

So how much time do you think we would need? I don't think we should limit the type or scale. I think we should allow partially started figures too.

Since this would be for mutual benefit for us all.

What do you think Pete?

If we keep it open to all scales and types of figure, but limit it to one figure, we could keep it quite short, do you think 6-8 weeks would be plenty of time for a single figure ?

Pete

Edit: we could state a rule that a simple "how I achieved this effect" or something along these lines, so that there would be an element of tutorial / tip about the group build too

One figure with six to eight weeks sounds okay. I'd love for this to be more about helping, like a workshop, rather than a competition.

The real winners will be those who have learned something they didn't know how to do, or faced a fear, whether successful, or not. That should be our goal.

I agree 100% Mike, figures are an area of the hobby that a lot of modellers stay away from, but with the right techniques a good result can be obtained by anyone and figures can lend a nice touch to a model plane or vehicle by adding a sense of scale or telling a story in a diorama.
Also buying a figure or 2 for the purpose of a group build needn't be expensive and perhaps some of the members out there like yourself and Nigel who are a bit more proficient with them will join in the combined knowledge and expertise would be invaluable

I am certainly looking forward to this event. How shall we get everyone on board?

We could start an interest thread in group builds and people can put there name down, I reckon a minimum of half a dozen people would be enough, we just need to come up with a starting date

Hmm. Okay.

Group build suggestion area is closed. :/
We'll have to try another way.

I didn't get any bench time over the weekend ( gubment or aliens been harvesting my brainwaves again ! )
But I cracked on again early this morning

I painted the remaining little guys heads, this time softly softly catchy monkey and with the paint thinned down a lot more than before
I still need a lot more practice but the blending is a lot better than on the other 2 pilots

I'm definitely heading in the right direction

Head glued on

I decided to paint the eyes ( he looks like me after the fumes lol) the eye in the left of the pic got fixed, but I didn't get a pic, he looks a bit reptilian "V" maybe lol ! It's them dang aliens again

Right then ! With the chaps out of the way I can start to complete the cockpit, I was sure it had RAF interior green in my paint stash. But after hunting high and low I drew a blank, I don't have time to go and pick any so I'm going to make do with what I've got
Decided on these

I sprayed the IJN green first, then over the top with the Gunze US green

Same on the sidewalls

And again inside the fuselage halves

A bit of sepia wash ( works really well with green or yellow ) and some scratches with a sharp 8b pencil, head rest painted black
I'm not going to go mad in the pit as the pilot hides most of it

Instrument panel was sprayed semi gloss black as a base

Now I need to think about how to tackle the details, Revell give a couple of decals on the sheet for the instruments

And we now from Hobbyhubby51s build that they look really nice when applied, but we also no my track record as far as declals are concerned !
So I'm going to try a different approach
These are spare instrument decals I had kicking around

Not strictly accurate I know, but I won't lose any sleep over it, and if it doesn't work or looks bad I can use the Revell decals as a plan B

Gratuitous pic of pilot in the office

So that's about it for the moment, I will try and get a bit more done later and will post some pics if I do !
Until then be careful of the Gubment and them pesky aliens !
I am of course doing everything I can to protect myself

And I suggest you all do the same !
Look out for my WIP thread on the hat
