Hi all just a quickie as a break. I am doing the Beatnik Bandit (Not the correct colours) I never build as it's supposed to be, unless it's a definitive article. Nope don't build the way it's supposed to be, 2 reasons for that.
1: Hides my bad modeling skills(cant say its wrong if its being deliberately done wrong from the start)
2: I like being different.
So Here's my start.

I want the engine to look like it's been around a while, not like it's just come out of the custom shop.

I like it already--all that chrome. was that kit part of a series of over-sized 'figures" in/on vehicles? I seem to remember it and similar.

Hi Ted I think the kits you are thinking of were AMT or ERTL.

Here is todays offering

Think I may do away with the fender decals, as it seems no amout of Micro sol or Micro set will take the wrinkles out of them.

did some more dirtying of the engine

Hi all here is where I am at now. wont be finished today as we have family all day so I just sneaked a quick go this morning, only got the light lenses front and rear then the dome to go on and the HT leads, a little touching up where I have not been too neat with my brush painting, so should finish tomorrow.

Hi all well it's finished (I was going to put HT leads on it but got fed up with them keep falling off so they can stay off)

the rear lights are supposed to have little bullets in them but I like the look without them so left them off.

the top is supposed to be a complete dome but I thought that wasnt very practible so I made it a convertible

Thanks ted, you just don't know where the mistakes are, and photos always make models look better than they actually are. But thanks for your kind comments.

I have been following this one, but forgive me for not commenting until now. Another great build, and you have really captured the retro look with you colour choice, nice modification on the dome, and the spikes on the front don't look too pedestrian friendly lol, I remember building a few kits like this as a kid (there seemed to be a lot more choice in these kind of models back then) I think that the hobby has taken a more "serious" turn over the years, maybe because youngsters are glued to their Xboxes rather than kits these days ? I prefer a more light hearted approach to the Hobby and enjoy building fun project alongside "real world" kits.
One old monogram kit I built way back when was called a "cherry bomb" if I remember right it was a car with a motorbike on a trailer and the bikes petrol tank was in the shape of a cherry bomb, I'd love to build one again

Another great build though !
Sorry for the Ramble

Pete I built the cherry bomb years ago my daughter went to New York last month and didn't have enough room in her luggage (so she says anyway) but I asked her to get one for me as they are still sold in the US but not over here (you can buy it but the postage is as much as the kit) my daughter is a cabin manager for easyjet (they don't fly to the US but she is hoping to go with Virgin so hopefully in the future I will get one. It was a great kit as I remember, two kits in one really.

Nigel has started a thread in general chat regarding old kits, I went and found a picture of the box and posted it on there, it really took me back to my youth, I do hope you manage to get one, I would love to see you put it into one of your dioramas ! It really was 2 kits in one, it must have been one of a series of kits.
I wish today you could pick up a kit like that in the newsagents, like you could back then
