I'd like to keep this idea fairly open so people can let their creativity flow etc. So any kit, any genre, any scale as long as it's fictional Sci-Fi or Fantasy including reinventing history fantasy. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Straight Kit Building is included too but scratch building and bashing is encouraged - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- .... I can imagine a few sub categories within in this GB, 1) Dioramas of moon bases or Martian landscapes or the Bat Cave etc. 2) Figures of fictional characters. 3) Replica vehicle/mecha kits of the movies, TV and comic book greats. 4) Scratch built own designs with some kit bashing for detailed bits, although if it's more bashed kit than scratch built it's a modified kit. 5) Modified Kits, for those that want to turn a boat into a space ship or an Me262 into a secret sub or attach jet fuselages to a horse cart for some bizzare pod racer or whatever ones fevered mind can think of by combining kits in new and novel ways. Plenty of opportunity to give away prizes with a best of each category plus Top Gun and maybe Most Original too. So up to seven prize worthy categories just in case Bobby wants more chances of winning for everyone but I reckon a given category would need at least three entries for it to be deemed a prize worthy category, so depending on who joins in with what could shape the nature of the comp a bit. An unusual proposal perhaps, but it could be a very interesting GB with lots of variety and possible prizes etc. Perhaps a variation of this idea might be more appealing to more people. Anyhow just some ideas to throw in the pot, I wonder what everyone else thinks ? Does this appeal in some way ? Well seeing as how the new Star Wars is coming out I thought it might be a nice idea to get back to our roots coz scratch building and kit bashing is where those movies started, also I figured it might be nice to have something that brought out the creative designer in people too Mind you if there is enough Star Wars kits are being built we could always have a "Best of Star Wars" category chucked in there too I'm also thinking real life space vehicles might be fair game too as they are science fiction come to life as it were plus it remains more or less in theme with a Sci Fi Fantasy idea. Another thought I might chuck in the pot for this one is that whilst those going down the normal kit route do the normal thing of box photo and contents etc. Those that are going down the Scratch and Bash route should provide concept drawings, hand drawn, 3D, photoshop or cut out pictures glued together, something that illustrates the general idea before you commence building, just to show that you have at least thought about the design, even if it changes. You could also show the kits that are to be bashed too Also, another nice thing about this idea is that it's a good chance to go through your scraps box and finally use some of it up or maybe even some of your old neglected kits could be resurrected in forms anew !! __________________ May The Farce Be With You ! However.........I can't paint to save my life....got all the gear and definitely no idea! How long do GBs usually last chaps? Oh yes I did ! be sure to cast a vote though in the poll above Not sure on duration but it seems like 3 or 4 months for the main ones, some are longer maybe, that would be up to Bobby And now is a good time to learn to paint, as long as you keep the brush strokes in the direction of flight you'll get away with any amount of streaking except at football matches of course Either that or team up with someone who can paint ! __________________ May The Farce Be With You ! Yes Steven, straight kit builds are all cool too What I am suggesting is a 3 way approach depending on what you want to do hence Scratch and Bash and Kit There are plenty of Sci Fi kits out there and it would be a shame to exclude people who want to that especially with Star Wars coming out like all the great kits coming out. This is a great idea for a group build as it covers a lot of subject matter and gives people a great choice of build . I think the group build duration is six months (2 a year) However, I won't be voting for any of the proposals this time round ,I wasn't going to enter the Bomber one due to other commitments (but got seduced by the pretty boxes in my stash lol !) @ Jas if it's a scratchbuild competition Bobby may as well get the engravers to put " falloffalot" on the trophy now lol ! Perhaps some kind of futuristic drop ship prototype or fighter, I'm intrigued to find out what what people might create Anyhow Pete, it's straight builds as well as scratch and bash so there's room for everyone, I hope you can be encouraged to join in for it though if this one gets approved, even if it's just a rapid build Here's a nice simple "how to" on scratch building hydraulics just to get everyone in the mood Quite basic but you know, a good starter __________________ May The Farce Be With You ! Good stuff ! Yeah there's loads of Sci Fi and Space Ship kits out there choose and the Bandai Star Wars stuff looks great too. Huge scope for variety on every level The Scratch Build side of things was more encouragement than mandate, an invitation to get creative and a chance for some of us to be space ship designers for a while However a straight build with some scratch build scenery might be a nice segway for some Which ever way you want to play it your vote would be most welcome as I'm really curious to see what other people might create Anyhow, here's hoping __________________ May The Farce Be With You !
