Seeing as the GB is going to be Carrier Deckers I thought I would bash on with this Zelle Fire double cheap as chips Sci Fi Scratch and Bash [biggrin]

I also have an old beat up 1;72 Harrier and Cobra so this might turn into a Dogfight Double as well [smile]

Going to draw from the colour schemes of WW2 for these and make them fighters from WW 2.5

[192525-15629-27]

That Spitfire had the laziest paint job ever, felt tip pen !!

[192526-15629-95]

A rough idea where I am aiming for this one, black bits on the wings to be removed and gun barrels in the side pods. Will be fitted with a V tail, tail dragger UC and British markings, Spitfire esque [smile]

[192943-15629-78]

Very basic interior in this old Airfix kit, not even a cyclic stick, I count myself lucky to get seats and a flat instrument panel !! lol [smile]

[193678-15629-89]

Fiddle and faff, wires always look cool [smile]

[193679-15629-58]

Painting dials in 1;72 is challenging !! especially without a magnifying glass !! MY EYES !!!!
So is scratching out 1;72 seatbelts, I thought I had cut them really fine but when I stuck them on I realised they are monster belts !
Oh well, once that shitty Airfix goes on all we will have is an impression of detail, which I can cope with [smile]

I like it! I actually think those belts look about right. Maybe a hair off, but nothing I would've even noticed had you not mentioned it. I really like the detail level going into this. This is going to be cool for sure.  [smile]

Cheers chaps [thumb]
much appreciated [smile]

progressing nicely, the vagueries are becoming clearer on how I need to piece it together.
I nicked a surveillance pylon from an oh58 which go where the rotors did, it looks a little like an R2D2 from Machinen Kreiger [smile]
Also had the bright idea of using the tail fan as a lift fan by drilling a 10mm hole on the underside of the body and carving up the fan housing.

Had a bunch more ideas for the Gazelle fuselage as a basis for a scratch & bash, it reminds me of a bike fuel tank, 24th scale would fit sweet.
Also a dragon fly style with a pair of spitfire wings carved into dragon fly wings and attach to the rotor housing and give it legs [smile]

I'm looking forward to this one too !

Great start Paul, the cockpit looks really nice mate and must have been a real challenge in such a tiny scale

I need one of those circular tube lights with a magnifying glass in the middle !!

My eyes felt like they were reaching out storks and they were doing that
trippy thing where you stair at something to long and your peripheral vision
starts to swim and the eyes start auto focusing independently on other things !!

Goggle ohw goggle ohw goggle ohw, feels like the symptoms of listening to Vogan poetry [smile]

My mind is racing along with all kinds of ideas I am having difficulty focusing on the job in hand [biggrin]
but I like it, better than having no ideas I guess [biggrin]

I keep thinking jet bikes for some reason Pete [wink] and pod and boom helis in 1/72 make
good mounts for 1/24th figures if you stick a saddle on them and some kind of motor underneath etc. etc.

the nice thing about 1/72 models is the cheap experimentation, plus it's all good
practice working on the small stuff, it means more detail in my bigger models [biggrin]

anyhow, more pics and sketches coming soon [smile]

Cheers for all the kind words & encouragement everyone, much appreciated [thumb]

Cheers chaps [smile]

Bit more progress, tail fan sawn off and modified as a lift fan and some blue tacking about just to make sure all is looking good etc :)
Without the wings it has a certain submarine quality :)

[195178-15629-35]
[195179-15629-93]
Fiddly faff but worth it

[195180-15629-91]
That thumb print [smile]

[195181-15629-35]
Mucking about with the blue tac but shaping up ok,
just a few more parts to source, guns for the inside cut outs of the wings and various little odds and sods [smile]

[195182-15629-55]
Think I'll aim to have it finished without the doors, or maybe gull wing doors, mmm

I hear you about the eye strain mate, I'm using my optivisor more and more these days (and I work in 1/32 lol)

Great idea to use a helo body for a jet bike your drawing shows how cool it looks. I dug my jet bike out a little while ago and started to try and figure out where I'm going to go next with it but inspiration is lacking at the moment I'm afraid to say .

I'm loving the way it's coming along, I can see a kind of dragonfly vibe to it that i really like and the spitfire wings with the scallops cut out are inspired mate

Cheers [smile]

Yeah I've been thinking dragon fly too [smile]
some antennas for the front and maybe some mandibles under the chin, tail rotors carved into knives-bayonets.

I might get another Spit and Gazelle to do a proper Dragonfly version [smile]
the Spit wings with the rear root scalloped more gracefully like a Dragobfly
wing, aligned conventionally but attached onto the rotor housing above the
cockpit with the V tail again and tail dragger UC, add antenna good to go [biggrin]

There's a really nice simple premise for these kinds of kit bashes,
here's the recipe -

1) take one heli and one plane,
2) cut off all the parts and put them in box,
3) pour in the glue and shake till assembled

haha [biggrin]

I can see myself doing a series of these "WW2.1 - NT edition" models [smile]
Gonna need to do a baddy for this puppy [smile]

Kits used so far are
1/72 Spitfire, Gazelle, Huey, Cobra, Harrier and Kiowa.
1/48 Harrier and a 1/24 Little Nellie with some PE from a 1/32 Spitfire [smile]

Anyhow, some more progress on the wings and I've also got the basic kit of parts all sorted now so that helps [smile]
