Seriously thinking about scratch building a "Pod Racer" [inspired by Star Wars]. A very young Anakin Skywalker shows his pod racing skills vs the power of the force present within him. His supreme ability as a pilot continues to build as he ages, reaching legendary proportions.

some inspiration found here--click on image to zoom:

most attracted to ODY Mandrell design due to some plastic currently in my "Misc Box" at UNIT10.

Show us your milk bottles !!! [biggrin]

Kinda getting it now [smile]
and yeah like it, also liking the Teemto Pagalies variant as well.
Some plastic drinks bottles might make good engines

This pod racer was made from ink cartridges and a car [smile]

Anyhow, nice to see you've dipped your toe at least [biggrin]

This was an idea I'd considered as well. I was thinking of the resin engine sets you can get for the A10 as a base.

Thanks guys.................but   W A I T,

I could not sleep the night after joining this GB, and my brain went into overdrive. Part of the problem was not having immediate access to all my "misc stuff" and considering other kits I have for an extension from pure scratchbuild to a kit/scratchbuild smash build.....or something like that?

Here is the deal: I have definitely decided to use a 40/50's model car kit as the drivers section of the pod, then using specific "misc box" items for the engines. I don't know exactly how I might incorporate a partial MIG-29A kit I have. I took parts from it to build the MIG-29A that is in my build here on Genessis.

I will be modifying the car model to somewhat approach the look of some vehicles from The Movie, "The Fifth Element". Here is a picture of some models from the movie showing Bruce Willis's cab and a police vehicle:

this is the model car I have:   1/25 scale 49' Mercury---Mine is a styrene kit, not a Di-cast.

this is the exact kit, I just loved the red version above:

The following image is from the pages of the instruction sheet for the REVELL 1/25 49'Mercury scale model available online.

I printed the page from the PDF document, then scanned it and opened the page with Photo Shop. Removed basic line elements and finally
reached a basic modification stage as I continued to remove certain lines and details from the scanned image. the cables for the motor pods will connect through the models headlamp openings. I will do a sketch when I have the motor pod "parts" from the unit [My Misc Parts Box] to use
for reference.

Brilliant idea Ted !

That 49 Mercury has lines that look very scifi even as a car and will make a perfect pod racer. A hot rod scheme would look great

I am caught between the hot rod red and a paneled out mix of metal colors ? I am sure the scheme will come to me.

hot rod red !!

with flames up the bonnet

and metallic bumpers and fittings

and a 1/24 figure of Billy Gibbons standing next to it [wink]

Coke cans might make good starting points for engine as "Shielded and Logo'ed"
part of the engine, like the tail pipe or the intake etc.
but with the Coca Cola logo masked and the rest greeblied and painted etc.

would suit the 50's iconography [smile]

you got so many great ideas! thanks Paul:

Spent some time at UNIT10 today. I got so much MISC stuff and.....well, everything. I'll let the pictures tell most of the story for now.

OK. I managed to narrow down much of the "possible" components and divide them into the small stuff--greeblies and the larger component pieces.
the primary hull pieces of the engines are made from a former PASTRY cylinder. I cut it in half with a dremel tool, and then took it home today and used my belt sander to smooth the ends down evenly and make the pieces the same size [ I'll snap some pics soon]. The pastry tips were also belt sanded down to be used as part of the engines--exhausts? The last montage shows my first construction work---gluing the bonnet on the 49'Mercury car body. the other image is a quick mock-up of the car + the base engine body positions.
