I've been doing small jobs as I wait for things to dry. The metal area on the underside of the tail is a one piece molding but has a seam right through the middle !

So I have sanded and polished it out, in the picture it looks like it needs a little more but I'll check it with some primer first

And I also have started to clean up the weapons, this is only a small amount the kit has loads in the box !

Thanks mate, the broadband speed here in the wilderness I is a bit pants lol, so I have to upload in small chunks or it would take days ! My photobucket account is filling up fast as well, but I got 8gb free for downloading the android app on my camera so I should have enough storage for the rest of this build. As for rivalling Ted , the detail might be similar but Teds photos and layout are far better than mine ! I really don't have an eye for photography, my camera will allow me to use everything manually but I have no idea how to work it, so it's set on auto for everything lol !

Another quick update then I've got a few chores to do before I can do anymore work on the Phantom
I removed the intakes and packed all around the gaps on the intake cover with little bits of plastic card and liquid glue, to try and add some strength so they don't collapse when I sand them

You can just see a silver peeking out at the bottom on this pic

Then the first stage was to fill the gaps with surfacer, I used this first as the filler can melt the plastic, so I'll let it dry and then sand it before I trowel the filler on !

Sidewinders up next. The tamiya colour call out is for white, I wasn't sure this was correct as I've seen a ton of models with metallic grey heads and a light grey body so I did a bit of research and naval aim 9s of this vintage were indeed white
All assembled

Eduard supply 2 sheets of die cut masks in the big ed set, I've used their canopy masks a couple of times in the past, but never used anything like this before, this is the instructions for the missile masks. Like a lot of Eduards instructions they may as well be written in hyroglyphics

Anyway I kind of figured it out and decided I would give them a go, as I want to use a little of the decals as possible, and it saves using my tamiya tape (which is getting expensive these days) if it all goes tango uniform I can always strip the paint and do it my usual way

Thanks Aidan, being there is a great movie lol, I havnt seen it for years I want to watch it again now you've mentioned it ! I have some more of today's progress to show but photobucket hates me tonight, it has been doing funny things the past couple of days making my pics go sideways ! But won't play nice at all now !
I'm really glad you are finding my progress interesting, I was worried that the updates were a bit much, but I will keep at it !

Ok I think photobucket is behaving again so I'll have another go at getting these pics up
White prime went on the missiles, Ive run out of Tamiya white primer and I've just got one can of grey that I'm saving for the Fuselage, so I did this with an old can of halfords
Primer, with the weather being so warm the finish much smoother than It was last time I used it

Yellow for the front rings

The mask is very thin but very precisely cut

Much easier than having to cut them, but for simple stripes like this it's not difficult to do yourself

Now these are a bit more useful they are shaped for masking the nose cone of the missile, I am using one as a test, I normally just dip the end of the missile into the paint !

It was a pain to try and get this on straight as the end of the missile is tiny

Next up black for the other stripe

The seeker head came out much better than I thought it would, I will have to put a drop of masking sol on the end to protect it from overspray now, but I think I will do the rest of them using the masks now

And the mask for the black stripe is on. Next I'll spray them white, paint the details on the fins, masks off gloss and decals

Cheers Gary , hehe this build might look quick, but I have been putting in some serious bench time, day one was 8 hours lol , I am in a position to pretty much work on this all day every day, so the time in days will seem quick, but I will be putting the hours in lol
