I hear you about the Tamiya decals mate, things are the work of the devil loads of carrier film and thick too.

Glad you sorted the marks on the tail Simon, I've had similar happen to me, usually another coat of klear sorts it out mate.

Problems aside its looking sharp In it's markings, when are you going to give the salt a bash ?

Thanks Pete, yeah I'll spend the rest of today going over it with a fine tooth comb. I still have to pin wash the vertical and horizontal stabilisers yet. Then I'll give it another coat of future and start on the salt tomorrow. Hopefully we'll have a nice Summer's day so I can put it outside to dry. I'll have to refer back to yours and Bobby's F-14 builds to see what shade you guys used. I'm thinking a drop or two of white in the original colour? Obviously thinned down a lot. I'll do all the gear doors and things separately and when that's all done glue everything together then.

I forgot it's summer down under, how's it been weather wise so far mate ? Been blowing a flipping gale here in Mordor even had a light dusting of snow last week. As a kid I didn't mind winter too much, but as a middle aged grumpy old git I just want to stay in bed under the duvet lol.

I made a really thin mix of Tamiya smoke with a drop of NATO black in it turned out I should have put a few more drops in the mix though as it came out lighter than I wanted. I wanted to try and get the look of all the grime from crew climbing all over it

The weather first. We've had a few days in the 40's already, a major crop fire that's killed a couple of people and done about $80mil of damage last count. Nothing new really (in other words it ain't "man-made climate change" folks!!!!). Got some days in the 40's again this weekend so good weather to do the washing. Haha!
Oh you went darker with the salt? I'm going to go lighter, as I've got the thing pretty dark now. So we'll see how that pans out. [smile]

Jeebus mate, that sounds serious ! We get fires up on the mountain in the summer (started by eejit kids) but I don't think they are a danger to property (other than the land) or people and we don't have the square miles that you have over there for it to spread into. The Brecon Beacons are big but still, only a postage stamp compares to down under.

40 degrees is hot lol, if it gets to the 30s here (unlikely given last summer) we melt hehe. Back in the 80s they said that Global warming would render the south east of England a desert in just a few decades. We had a it mild winter after winter and they raged about it, then about 10 years ago it snowed and snowed lol. Followed by mega flooding across the UK, now it's rebranded as Climate Change.

Man made ? I don't know. The planet is old and has been through no end of climate changes long before we got here. We have been here for less than the blink of an eye so I can't see how the data can be assessed with absolute certainty in a planet that is aeons old. But climate change helps their agenda (tinfoil hat on) and goes toward justifying taxes

Omg!!! The salt worked! It's outside drying now so photos to follow, but initial assessment is "awesome"! Lol

Ok I couldn't wait so I took some outdoor shots to show the effect. For the underside I used light ghost grey with a bit of white in a weak (very thin) mix. And darkened it as I went to the top, making sure to keep it lighter than the Dark Ghost Grey on top. I think it's worked a treat on first inspection.
I'll let it sit outside for a couple of hours to dry completely and give it a good once over before sealing it.

The pics.
With the salt on

Salt off...

The underside..

Now to finish building this thing. [smile]
Thanks for looking.

Just a quick preview of the days play today. The underneath has all the pre-prepared pieces fitted and an attempted matte coat. But my AB was overdue for a bath so that got halted midstream.
Very happy with how it's going together. These big jets are much easier getting those, usually fiddly and annoying, pieces on.

Anyway, a quick peek. lol

Tomorrow I tackle the cockpit and canopy. Oh, once I finish the matte coat underneath.
I reckon this will be ready to reveal on the weekend sometime. Brilliant!
Thanks for looking.

P.S. I decided to chuck in a paws down shot.

Thanks Crossy. Hopefully the cockpit will go together no problem today. It should look the part then. [smile]
