Just catching up on this. Very nice work indeed so far. The Tamiya kits do look very good, and some nice additions too.

Quick update here, I was finally able to sit down and finish the primer and then I went on to pre-shade.  Here are the results.

I'll check it tonight to make sure I'm happy with the coverage then let it completely dry before taping it up and painting the top side.

On another note, I'm very impressed with the new entries in the group build.  Some very interesting builds and the quality is awesome.

Thanks,

Looks great and your preshading vs the color is spot on IMHO.

Hi,

I was able to sit down last night and finally get some colour on this bird.  Because of the scale, I decided to freehand the camo pattern by first outlining the camo and then filling in the green and then the grey.  I took time to make sure the lines were nicely blended.  When painting I left the centres of panels a little lighter on paint to achieve a more weathered look, which turned out nice but I'm just not sure convinced it's the look I want.  I'll take a look again and maybe add another light coat to even things out.

Here are the pics.........

Green first.......

Thanks,

Hi Timbo, the camo looks great on my side of the screen. I also started painting my Warhawk a struggle with exactly the same thing: to much, to little or is it okay??? What will additional weathering do and will a flat coat tone down everything? You have to trust on your guts and your taste with this. I personally like WWII birds dirty and weathered so I rather try to go a little too far with the contrast of the paintwork. But again, it’s all about your interpretation and likings... all I can say that the pictures are very interesting and that i like what you’re doing.
Good luck ;-)

Hi Fabian,

Thanks for that, it's so true the struggle of knowing when to stop.  I do agree though it all comes down to personal preference, after all you are the one that has to look at it everyday.

After looking back at the pics I noticed a few places that need a little touch up so I have some time to think about it until I get around to that.

Look forward to seeing your paint work on the P-40.
