Hi all,

I started building the Orochi M3A3 Bradley CFV which is linked to in my signature and I'm making it into a diorama with some figures.  So instead of putting it all in one thread, I'm breaking out the figures into their own...

Here is the box:
[FigureCampaignStart]

I've already assembled the Army figures.  Not planning on using the Marines for this project so they'll go back on the shelf.

[Team_02]
I'm now on to painting...

[Figures_Painting_02]
[Figures_Painting_03]

As you can see in the photos, I had an issue with the snipers barrel...I 'ACCEDENTALLY' burned it off trying to straighten it.  Got a tip form another modeler to use stretched sprue.  I should have thought of that myself but didn't.  Anyway, stretched it, cut it to size, and glued it on.  Looks good.

[Sniper_07]

Still have a bit of painting left and then it's on to weathering...

Simon-  Thanks for pointing that out!!  I looked up and down the list of forums for figures and didn't even see it.  If it was a snake, it would have bit me!!

Mods-  Please feel free to move my Post under the 'Figure Paint Workshop / Group Build' if you think it would benefit the forums.  Thanks!!

It fits here just as well as there Mack lol. Besides, we Figure mods don't have any control over anything out of the Figure Group section. You have the power to move it, but I do not lol. But this is an appropriate section for figures anyways, so you can leave it here if you want to. It won't stop anyone from following lol.

I'll leave it where it is...

I finish painting the figures:
[Figures_Painting_04]
They look better at a distance and not too close up.  Trying to get a tiny point of paint to dot the eyes was tough.  As you can see I didn't get them uniform.  The weathering should hide some of the imperfections, but that'll come later.  Have to finish the Bradley first.

Overall I'm happy with them and had fun building them.  Broke that dang rifle barrel off again!!  Fifth time!!  I'll glue it on once I'm ready to place the figures.  After I weather them, else I'll probably break it off again.

Eyes are TOUGH! If you ever get around to reading any of my threads down in the FGB section you'll know that I will repaint those little bastids over and over and over and over, etc, until I am happy with the results. Just keep your paints THIN and that will make it a bit easier.

A tip for future painting; a toothpick. Add a drop of Super Glue to the tip of a toothpick and then sand it down so you have a needle-like tip on that stick. Make up some black paint with the consistency of a wash and just drop a bit of paint on the eye. It's hard, but with practice it works okay.

The easy way; Buy a .01 artists pen and just "dot the eyes" lol. I use this a lot. It's super easy and gets great results. Then the trick is to get the whites right. Never use pure white for the whites of eyes though. Use a light grey or light pink to bring the white down just a shade or two. This make the eyes look more natural.

So I hope that helps with that bit of figure painting. There are a lot more tips in the FGB section and they're spread all over the place. I still need to consolidate all of the tips and tricks into one cohesive thread. But if you can get through all of the reading down there it is a gold mine of info.

Last tip; For gun metal just paint the metal black and then run a standard No.2 pencil over it. The graphite does the magic for you.  [wink]

P.S. I like the way you did that camo. Good colors.  [smile]

I finally made it back to the bench to spruce up the team a bit.  Re-did the eyes and added eyebrows.  Made a huge difference.

[Figures_Painting_05]
Now I just have to finish the Bradley builds, paint them, weather the whole group, build a base, set up the diorama, and the finish line is in sight.  No worries!!  [biggrin]

I'm finally back with an update to my troops.  After reading through the numerous posts 0n painting figures, I came up with a plan to fix the eyes.

I first painted white for the eye ball.  Then went back and touched up around them to give more of an eye shape.  At least as much of an eye shape as I could muster on these tiny guys.  Once that looked good I painted the pupils.  This time I used a pin to dot the eyes.  It worked pretty well...

[Figures_Painting_06]

The expressions are pretty interesting and give them some character.  Especially the chap that is leaning.  He looks a wee bit confused and surprised.  I still have to fix the rifle barrel and weather them.  But that probably wont happen until I place them in the diorama.  I'm really happy with the way they turned out.

They just keep looking better! Nicely done again. The leaning guy looks scared. Like he just stepped on an IED.

Didn't think of that...IED

The Orochi kit did come with an ordenance disposal figure too.  May have to rethink the dio and use him.

The figures look great Mack,

Eyes are the hardest part to do, I struggle with them too, I saw a review for decals of human eyes in 1/35 made by a company called archer, But the review only showed them on the sheet and not applied to the figure, so I'm not sure how easy or not they are to use.

Looking forward to seeing the diorama

Pete
