This is the official thread for the Moderators only. This is where Nigel, Pete, and Mike will be posting their builds for all to see. If you have any questions about their builds they will be answered. Please feel free to question everything. If you see something you don't understand they can explain it.

Just before we announce the begning of this years Painting GB I would like to show you the figure I shall be painting.
I will try my best to show as many pictures that I can of the progress, and detail the paints and mediums used, and how I've managed to do certain techniques along the way.

I welcome any questions at any time during the painting.

I'm going for a middle scale hence a 1/35 (or 54mm) resin figure.

Oh, and there will be a surprise at the end.

This is the model...

I hope everyone who takes part have an enjoyable time.
Good luck to you all.

edit, some of you may remember me starting this, although I can't find the link. So here is my chance to finish this.

I remember this figure, but I'm not sure where you had previously mentioned it.  [smile]

Just to bring you up to date the figure has been completely washed in tepid water and brushed with detergent and  a soft old toothbrush. This will remove all residual releasing agent that might still be on the surface. It was allowed to dry naturally. I had to do a slight alteration to one of her legs, so I cut the lower part off (at the point where the boot meets the trousers) and re-pinned it to look better using ca glue.

I've roughly cut out part of the diorama to get a feel as to how I want this to look when finished. Personally I think this is the most important part of figure painting....how it will be displayed.
It's obvious it's somewhere hot and she is taking time out to cool down a bit (oh, her name is Suzie by the way. Lads this is Suzie. Suzie these are the Lads [kiss]). So, we can assume that Suzie is possibly sweating (or glowing...as my nan used to say, only men sweat) and she is going to have quite a sheen to her skin. She must be swe...glowing for a reason and I like the idea of making her a mechanic, there's something dirty about her.

So there we have it Suzie is a mechanic in the field, and it just so happens that I have a Tamiya Mechanics Yard set....I just love coincidences [wink]

Here's my entry for the GB/Workshop.

For my build I will be concentrating on describing my methods for realistic facial and skin tones, eyes, and shading black (Black is a real PITA to shade).  [smile]

I still have his right arm to finish cleaning up the outside seam, but he's all in one piece now, and after I took this picture I started reshaping his insignias. They are a bit undefined OoB. I even had to carve the eagle off the side of his hat. I have a plan I just tested successfully on another fig to correct that little problem though. After fixing his hat I should be golden though.  [smile]

I've added my custom patches and insignias. (I made them from blue painters tape and used some flat lacquer to stick them down.) Now he's all primered and good to go as soon as 24 hours pass.  [smile]

I've got a bunch of "ugly" pictures for you guys. [smile]

Basic paint with the eyes blocked in.

Deep shadows and highlights knocked in there.

Finishing up today with a good medium base with some preshading under it. Now he needs some color. He's looking a little drained lol.

So is it just me, or does he almost resemble Alan Alda, or kinda like Christopher Lloyd?
