Well, I confess that I cannot stay away from the 1989 Batmobile!

BUT......I have been sanding on the 66 Batmobile at the same time and making progress with both kits. Below are some misc montages of 89 work:

89 batmobile details 2.jpg

Holes drilled everywhere. The nose piece of the body, the base of the rear nozzle. The odd looking white material is a fibrous paper tape which conforms easily and is very tough. It represents a "cowling" of sorts between some areas of the batmobile.

more of the cowling on the inner surface of the wing sections. Reason for this will become evident later. I am contemplating fixing the problem with the computer modules coming up out of the hood. Working on making a template to use to cut a very thin piece of styrene sheet
to cover the grill in front of the windshield.

My intent all along was to open these "grills" on the front fenders and then back them with real wire mesh. Taking the steps needed to accomplish the openings.

In step 8 of the instructions, it shows the grappling hook coming from a compartment just behind the front wheel well on the port side of the Batmobile. The grappling hook does not come from that compartment. It fires out of a round port just in front of the large side intakes. This is why I have drilled a large hole there. The hook comes out with the limbs folded.  They pop open and lock in place as the hook travels outward. I will have to make the small round door for that opening.

Earlier in my WIP thread I was talking about having the Jet turbine engine pulled out of the Batmobile. I watched a video build by another modeler and he states that the engine goes right through the opening in the front of the Batmobile. Well, I'll have to call BS on that. When the engine is completely assembled including a part that goes on the side of the engine--there is NO WAY that the engine will slide in and out of the Batmobile body. I put my noggin to work on a solution for how that could actually work. I came up with something pretty drastic. I used a razor saw to cut both sides of the front end open. I will mount the front ring and tongue to swing up and out of the way, leaving plenty of room for the engine to roll out on dolly wheels and the track inside the Batmobile. Problem solved? you decide. If the front piece is mounted in its usual place it looks perfectly normal. It it opens forward and up, plenty of room for the engine to roll out.

The last picture in the montage above shows the rear vents above the nozzle of the Jet turbine engine. Makes sense. My problem with the vents is that they were pretty clunky and had no crisp edges that you might expect from and area that needs the capability to close tightly to prevent sabotage, then open to release heat when the engine is operating at high temp. I used a few instruments to make them look more realistic. Yes, I thought long and hard about opening the space underneath each vent, then chickened out! cluck cluck! LOL

One more "grappling hook" piece of logic. This is a video about Batman using grappling hooks of all kinds and in several movies. But at approx .23sec you can see the hook firing from the Batmobile and digging into a steel beam [quite a hefty beam I might add], allowing the Batmobile to swerve 90deg.

screen capture actually showing more detail of what happens when the grappling hook fires

Thank you Alain!
I used the pledge on the 89 Batmobile just to
Protect the flat black finish while I do other work on the parts. Flat black is so easy to “scar”. Final paint will be a flat clear varnish to dull everything down.

This section has to do with creating the base for the 89 Batmobile having maintenance, upgrades, etc.
Its somewhat similar to the 89 movie except this is a dedicated "garage" separate from the computer
areas of the bat cave.

Three elements: Artist foam core, shipping paper, and hot glue.

IMG_2621.jpg  IMG_2622.jpg  IMG_2623.jpg  IMG_2630.jpg  IMG_2631.jpg  IMG_2644.jpg  IMG_2645.jpg  IMG_2648.jpg  IMG_2674.jpg  IMG_2675.jpg  IMG_2676.jpg

As you can see from the sequence, the beginning plan and construction changed during construction. I eliminated the side computer area and made the base all about the "garage" and the batmobile.
