I spent the last nights with the Mercedes D III, and this is the result, Looking at the closeups I think I will tone down the weathering just a bit.

Next up I will weather the interior and hopefully get the fuselage halves together

Thanks for looking

Oh I forgot to mention that I decided for this scheme, like the combination of bare wood and the painted rear. Also you can't neglect 43 victories!

The engine is perfect! No need to tone down anything :-)

I agree with Fabian about the engine, and I like the colour scheme your going for.

I agree with the others, weathering is perfect.  What was the process you used to get that finish??

Thanks for the positive comments, you all convinced me to leave it as it is and instead weather the engine compartment to match, will share some pictures later.

I used a lot of different products, however you can get a similar look with cheap oils.

I painted the engine with acrylics, then polished some surfaces with metal pigments. Applied AKs engine & turbine wash, followed by kerosene leaks and stains, aircraft engine oil and two shades of dirt deposit all enamel products from AK. Letting each dry and then removed some, before moving on to the next, also added some earth pigments. Kept adding and cleaning until I got the desired layered effect.

Last I flicked the engine wash, kerosene and oil effects off a brush with stiff bristles.

Hope that makes some sense :)

Time for another update! This kit is just amazing, only problem is that I can't blame the kit when something goes wrong [biggrin]

Got the interior ready and installed

Engine is just dry fitted, will keep it on the side until final assembly. Just got the fuselage halves together, so hopefully I will start painting the wings during the weekend.

Thanks for looking!
Have a nice weekend!
