With the Quad and gun, plus the Universal Carrier finished, I have started on the dio.

My figures arrived yesterday and three have been built. (there May be a fourth, we'll see)

Now to face my military nemesis..... figure face painting!!! [frown]

My new figures arrived yesterday.

Just to give you an Idea as to where the dio is heading:

Thanks Ted.

OK.... tonight I set too on the figure faces using a combo of advice from my figures mentor on my own site (Gary) and a YouTube video.

First the eyes area was over painted with white. Next a dark vertical stripe was added to represent the iris. Finally for tonight Dark Flash was added, blocking out the pupils white until I felt happy with it.

But oh dear!! The camera is so cruel. The eyes looked pretty darn good to my naked eye but the camera shows the pupils need considerably more blocking out with the dark flesh.

Oh yes, the camera is especially cruel on closeups but remember, those that view your work will see them at "normal" distance and if they are "ok" in that viewing range, [often about 18"?], then you are good to go.

OK.... here is take two:

[00911]

I think it looks much better and will go with this for now and see what it looks like when I finish the skintones. It's far from perfect but I'm happy with it as my first serious attempt at a face.

As stated above, the camera is a cruel close up instrument and in reality, the naked eye sees it much more akin to this photo:

Thanks guys.

Thanks guys.

This is take three:

It's way from perfect but thanks to Gary, I think it is WAY better than my previous feeble attempts. Since this figure will have his head down and being reasonably happy with the eyes, I'm going to leave him as is and move onto the next one.

I did the other two faces tonight, no real improvement but I'm satisfied enough at the moment to call them good. Besides I want to get the dio finished.

I've made the images small to more represent what the eye sees in person.

Al...The figure faces look fine; especially in a diorama setting with the other vehicles to grab attention.  Job well done!  I avoid all figures to avoid dealing with their faces.
